we came during the week without reservation and the place was packed! But the kind staff offered to set up the table outside. So while streetview on Broadway might not be for everyone, we enjoyed the breeze and were happy with the seating. Next time we know - make a reservation.
And the place is busy for good reasons.
Our waitress was so kind and helpful and a great character, she walked us thru the menu and the history, before giving us great tops and recommendations.
The bison pot roast with mash was absolutely great, tender and tasty and is such a comfort food that checked all my boxes on that day. The Fiss n' Rice was also prepared well. The rice had a great flavor and texture and the salmon was on point.
Did not know what to expect for Bannock, but it was a very smooth and dense tasty bun. Enjoyed every bite of it.
Overall we very satisfied and enjoyed our dinner. We will be back for more!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Corlie W.Woodbury, MN017May 28, 2024
Dined here on our last night of a recent trip to Vancouver and quite honestly cannot think of a better way to have topped off our trip. Food was outstanding - we had the sable fish, fiss n rice, risotto, and elk. Each dish was deliciously prepared and beautifully served. The bannock was fantastic and I still am thinking about the cedar jam.
Staff was welcoming and ambiance was warm. Cannot recommend Salmon n Bannock highly enough!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Blair B.Vancouver, Canada626308204Apr 21, 2024
I'm so pleased my partner heard about this beautiful, friendly and TASTY place!
I visited with my partner and parents, and we had such a good experience.
My partner has a lot of allergies, and we've been dismissed or eyerolled at by other restaurants. But the manager was so, so kind and thorough going through the menu with us and figuring out what my partner could eat. The kitchen was conscious, and modified dishes while keeping them delicious.
We shared a salad to start, then the sablefish, bison, and risotto, and sorbet for dessert. We also had a gin and tonic (that turned purple!!), maple whiskey, and vodka with homemade berry soda. Everything was outstanding!
The manager introduced the menu, took questions graciously, told some great stories, took our photo, and had so much good info about the artists whose work was featured on the walls.
I'm so psyched I know about this place, and am excited to return!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jessica S.Somerville, MA010Aug 24, 2024
Wow, while I'm just visiting, this was the best meal I've had in Vancouver! The food was delectable, the service was exceptional - everyone was so friendly & welcoming. Looking around at the other customers, the restaurant works for anyone and for any occasion, from a solo person like me looking for a good meal, to families celebrating special events, to date night. Highly recommend!

Greeting fellow big backs.. today's journey was to a fAnCy restaurant, rooted in honor of the Indigenous people of Canada. Getting straight to the point, one of my favorite foods was their skibidii Bannock bread (DANG SHE THICC) . The service was lowkey amazing, and all the servers gave us recommendations that helped choose the food we would soon slay. The salmon is cooked to PERFECTION, and overall this joint eats and leaves NO crumbs. Period.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 4Oh no 0 - 03757Apr 12, 2024
To start, I give thanks for the first nation tribes in Canada. Secondly I advise everyone to experience sublime culinary excellence at this unique Indigenous-owned restaurant. My husband and I were blown away by the warm hospitality, the gourmet native-foods-based menu selections, and the cultural learning added to the exquisite meal. Venison sausage with sage-infused blueberries, smoked salmon, creamy duck spread were tantalizing and the bison roast with mashed potatoes was like slow-roasted love and comfort. The ambience with music, arts, salt crystal light on table were perfect-- make a reservation ahead, because they fill up fast! Peace and blessings to Brigitte and Anton who take such great care in what they do, that we left feeling we had new friends!

Very pleasant service and unique menu.
I was excited to try indigenous foods, this was our first experience. Our waitress was great at introducing some of the indigenous culture.
Bannock - looks like a big American biscuit, is much denser. I slathered on the accompanying butter and realized I was mostly tasting butter. I do not think the Bannock had much flavor itself. Cedar jelly was offered and we declined but were given a dish anyways. I thought it was complimentary, but we were charged for it.
The sauce of the Bison pot roast was enjoyed but the portion was felt to be small.
Smoked Sablefish was served on top of a rectangle of firm polenta with accompanying asparagus - a hearty portion. Texture was great and soft but I did not taste any smoke. Salmon burger was served on Bannock. Candied salmon was interesting- very peppery, I did not really taste any sweetness- this was my first time so not sure how to compare it. Nothing was bad but nothing was exciting enough to bring me back for more either.
Parking - after hours (?)You can park in the piano store's spaces underground, entrance from alley behind the restaurant.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Stephen E.Chicago, IL01Aug 22, 2024
Attractive, cozy setting and friendly service. Interesting, distinctive menu options (game sampler) but we found the quality of preparations to be inconsistent. Certain plates were very good (bison stew and salmon burger); others tended toward the bland and uninteresting (sockeye/rice and veg risotto). Surprisingly, the sockeye was dry to the point of being inedible (presumably overcooked). We left impressed with the evident commitment to a unique concept but disappointed with the uneven results.

We live in Los Angeles, but if and when we only have one night to spend in Vancouver, this is unquestionably where we go to dinner. The service is so personal and the food is inspired.

The Salmon n' Bannock Bistro is an excellent choice for a truly delicious dining experience. From appetizers to desserts, each dish has been created to showcase indigenous peoples use of fresh and local ingredients. The bistro is small, only 9 tables, and very attractive with artwork. The service and staff are very attentive and knowledgeable. Be sure to call for reservations. This is a unique experience sharing the respect that indigenous peoples have for food and hospitality.
