There's a little sign on the side walk, saying it was the best Korean food in town. At first we were a bit skeptical, after we tried their food we became believers!Â
The restaurant is quite narrow but spacious. We got there in the mid afternoon so there weren't many people around. When our banchans came, we liked the generous amount and pretty presentation.Â
All the food was masterfully cooked and presented. My fiancé ordered the cold noodles with an icy broth. Perfect for the hot summer day. The noodles were chewy and the entire dish was so delicious and refreshing. I got the beef bone soup (Sul Long Tang) and really liked it as well. The broth was thick and creamy, I had no problem finishing the entire soup myself.
If we were staying in the neighborhood, we would literary eat all our meals here if we could. We highly recommend So Hang if you are in the mood for Korean.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - PenguinC L.Old Toronto, Toronto, Canada01116Jul 7, 2024
Oh dear.
Other than the service, the food was inferior at best.
I got a K1 (Mool Naeng Myun) for $16.95. With the price in mind, I wasn't expecting too much. Other than the presentation, everything else went downhill. Noodles were decent. Soup was a bit too salty. Although they didn't specify, I wasn't expecting only 1 little thin slice of beef on top, with the circumference of a toddler's fist. It was so thin I couldn't even taste it properly. Shitty.
K4 (Bibim Bap), also for $16.95, was mid. Of course I wasn't expecting a Michelin quality dish, but this was still utterly disappointing. The only thing with a decent portion of was the rice. Veggies and meat were scarce.
Nice that they provided us with a little plate of garnishes to add to our meals!
I can see that, by other reviewers, the combos and set meals seem to have bigger portions and overall better quality. I don't know if the big portions are true though. Maybe the restaurant has already succumbed to shrinkflation...
Final remarks:
1. If any dishes had a bit more meat in it, I would've raised the score to at least 3-4 stars.
2. If it wasn't for the extra accommodating waitress that took our orders and the overall positive ambiance, it would easily be a 1 star.
3. Maybe I'm a little harsh on the small portions, but compared with all the other restaurants in the Lower Mainland, there are definitely some better choices out there.
4. Flavours are alright... just think the portions need a bit of tweaking.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 3, 2024
Humble little Korean place with all the basics you can crave for and find. We got the bibimbap and beef ox soup with glass noodles to share. The bibimbap was hearty and big in portion. It was yummy and we had leftover to take home. The ox soup was perfect for a cold rainy day. No bones with just beef slices. I thought it was a little bland but I liked it and chose to leave out the salt and pepper provided.
The side dishes were super cute but average. Rice tea was delicious in thermo cups. Would come back again. Easy to get servers attention for the most part.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 24, 2024
I asked to order the gamjatang as a single serving even though they normally serve a larger portion for sharing, and they were so sweet to accommodate! It's my favorite Korean dish and this place does it perfect every time!
Great service great food.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 208492643Aug 17, 2023Updated review
Things have gone downhill since the owner changed. Grandma is not cooking in the back kitchen. Attentive Manager is no longer. All the good servers are gone.
Kanpungki chicken is soggy and little meat. Soon dubu jigae is bland. I'm moving on.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 16, 2018Previous reviewThis review is based on dinner, and ordering single dishes. (So no combos, larger dishes like bulgogi, gam ja tang, japchae, etc.) The restaurant is in a narrow but long space, so it's deceivingly large for a local restaurant.
I have been here a few times now, mostly as a single before my Korean night class starts. So I get here early usually...or so I thought. Last time I was here before 6, the place was almost full already. Luckily, they had one last table at the very end for me.
The waitresses are attentive and polite. Always greet you with a friendly smile, and will then run around to find you a seat.
Last night, they were busy, so it took them just a bit longer than usual to come take my order. But once that was done, the food comes in a timely fashion.
I had the soon dubu jigae with beef. The tofu was soft (but piping hot - be careful not to burn your tongue). The beef was fine, not too little. There is an egg in there which is nice. As expected, the dish comes with a bowl of rice and side dishes. They come in dishes in the shape of a tear drop, so they purposely arrange on the table into a flower by putting them together. Nice touch!
I have also had on other occasions their dolsot bibimbap. Very good and well portioned.
I do see other tables ordering the kalbi, combos, or gam ja tang, and they all looked good.
I will likely return to try their lunch next time. Highly recommend for someone looking for a cozy, authentic almost home cooking style Korean food. - Jul 20, 2023
Korean place near Fraser and 48th.
Parking is available on the side streets.
The place is actually quite long and narrow. The tables are packed in there. Place looks pretty modern.
Many of the staff weren't Korean. Instead it was a nice multicultural mix. Everyone was friendly.
K1 Mool naeng myun (cold buckwheat noodles) - it was indeed cold. The "soup" was actually slushy ice, though it did have flavour. Nice and refreshing. Served with a soft boiled egg, some vegetables, and a slice of beef. Goes well with the provided vinegar. There is a spicy variant (K2 on the menu).
B6 LA Kalbi (marinated AAA beef short ribs) - served on a sizzling platter on a bed of bean sprouts. Green onion bits on top. Tasty.
D2 Tang soo yook (deep fried battered pork) - served with sweet and sour sauce. Quite similar to the Chinese variant, though this dish has less sauce.
Overall my friends and I were quite happy with the food. Wouldn't mind coming back, though the place does get quite packed. Recommended.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - CBJ C.Richmond, Canada2127May 19, 2024

They have a little sign out front that said "best Korean food in Vancouver". After eating there I can now confidently said that I think they got that right!
I've been looking for years for a new favorite spicy pork bulgogi and have found a few decent ones in Portland Oregon and Seattle Washington but no luck until today. So Hyang has it!!!
I had the spicy pork bulgogi lunch with some amazing side dishes and purple rice as a standard with my meal. Sadly I was just visiting Vancouver for the day and can't come here every week for lunch but I am planning to make So Hyang a regular stop anytime I am back in town. So good!
Very well done guys!!!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Giang N.Costa Mesa, CA191084Jul 30, 2024
Hole in the wall, but delicious Korean food at great prices. Crowded when we arrived around 6 o'clock.

I'd love to show ya what the dish looks like, but this is what you'll see before long.
If you want a clue as to tell if it's a good Mexican restaurant, you try their frijoles. Chinese? Try their fried rive of course. Korean? (Before you take out a mortgage loan for the BBQ dishes (LA kal-bi), you best take a taste of their kimchi ban-chan or better yet the kimchi casserole (kimchi jji-gae).
From LA native standards, I would give it a three star. They ran out of hard tofu so they over loaded with soft tofu that is pretty much a soon tofu ingredient. To be honest, the dish started as kimchi stew but then the ingredients morphed over to a tofu stew. I'm not nick picking but I gotta just make that point to keep my reputation honest.
Now for what I expected after spending a week of non Korean food in Canadian Rockies, the overall hunger filling experience met my craving. I'm a satisfied customer with a family with a stuffed belly.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
