This place is amazing! There's clear signage to direct traffic in and out of the restaurant. The staff here are wonderful, they managed my allergy related questions well. My son has a peanut and wheat allergy and they were patient and answered my questions. The fries are always gluten free and they can make gluten free fish and chips. I highly recommend, often times I find a gluten free spot the mix is weird (gummy or falls apart). The gluten free battered chips were so crispy with huge chunks of fish!
There's a self serve bar of sauces, if you dine in utensils and water are provided by the counter top where you will pick up your order.
Highly recommended!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 21, 2024
Amazing fish and chips, seriously one of the best we've had and we are spoiled in WA for good seafood. The batter was thin and crispy, there were nice big pieces of fish and the tartar sauce was delicious. We also tried the diary free clam chowder, it's different, more like potato soup with clams, but still really good.
Service was excellent and they even got a couple of counter seats and 1 large table. You can also buy fresh fish at the counter if you like.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Todd J.Newark, CA36614Mar 26, 2024
I suggest you go to The Fish Counter, don't wonder if you should try it, just go. I had the razor backs and was sad when I finished them. I finished all of them. Perfectly cooked and flavorful.
I like the patio and inside seating, it's comfortable and you'll need table space to accommodate all the food.
Ask the staff for help. They are friendly and helpful.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Orjola M.Las Vegas, NV22613Aug 23, 2024
I tried fish and chips and a side of clam chowder. The fish and chips were amazing but I feel like there was too much batter and not enough fish. The batter easily kept coming off. The clam chowder was okay, it had the texture of chicken noodle soup but without the chicken. I did see that it was dairy free and I still gave it a shot and was disappointed. I probably won't come back here.

We went to see a matinee at the Viff during the International Film Festival and it's almost 3 pm afterwards so decided to pop into Fish Counter.
This is the first time we visited since they changed ownership a couple of years ago.
We ordered the 2pc cod/chips and 1pc oyster.
The Cod--not dried out yet not moist at all, fish not seasoned at all, it was flavourless. Plus I was given 3 long strips of thin cut fish trimmings!
The Batter--thick not light as it should be, soaked in so much grease that it overpowers the delicate flavour of white fish.
The Oyster--taste fresh except for the oily heavy batter
The Chips--uneven slices, some stuck together, taste ok
If your palette prefer greasy oily battered fish, then you will enjoy it!
I was quite hungry, forgot about pictures. My stomach felt really queasy and nauseated after all that grease so I will not go again until they change ownership again:-)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Kaci C.Post Falls, ID25897131Jun 15, 2024
Solid fish and chips with gluten free option (that had a dedicated fryer). Fast service and enough seating to find a spot even with it being busy-ish. Couldn't put my finger on why, but it wasn't a 5/5 in the flavor category. Definitely worth a stop if nearby.

The best fish and chips ever!!! First time I've ever been asked what kind of fish I wanted. They have great selection and they cut it and fry it fresh. The tartare sauce is amazing as well.

This is a casual Neighbourhood spot selling fish and seafood to cook at home, as well as a restaurant side with some of the most succulent fish and chips!
I came here with a co worker and we both opted for the one piece halibut and chips. (I also asked for extra tartar.)
Our meals came out hot, crispy and fresh. There's communal dining as well as high top stools.
On my list to visit again!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 832882136Dec 30, 2023
I visited the fish counter on a Friday evening in search of some gluten free fish and chips, and wow they did not disappoint. The batter was comparable to a tempura style batter - very light and crispy. The tartar sauce was also very flavourful! From the time we ordered until we received our food was about 5 minutes even though there were other people in the shop. They were super fast in getting our order to us! There is one large table and some high top seats that face outside, so plenty of seating to choose from. I'm excited to come back and try some of the other fish or even the lox that they had - yum!
