Emily Ramey-Root is in her second full season as an assistant coach for the St. Olaf men's cross country and track and field programs in 2023-24 after joining the staff prior to the 2022 outdoor season.

In the last two seasons, Ramey-Root has helped lead St. Olaf to back-to-back Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) team cross country titles and consecutive top-15 national finishes. The Oles have won the last two MIAC team titles by at least 25 points and placed 13th nationally in 2023 and 13th in 2022.

St. Olaf has finished in the top three in the team standings at the MIAC Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships in each of the last two seasons, including a runner-up finish outdoors in 2023. The program has also had nine national qualifiers, including four All-Americans, over the last two indoor and outdoor seasons.

Ramey-Root came to the Hill after serving as the director of operations and recruiting coordinator at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) for eight years while also coaching the 400/800, multis, high jump, and javelin.

During her eight years at CMS, Ramey-Root coaches 14 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) champions, 62 All-SCIAC honorees, two school-record holders, one SCIAC conference record, 16 national qualifiers, and five All-Americans. She was also part of five SCIAC Coaching Staffs of the Year, as CMS won a combined 11 SCIAC team titles (six women, five men) during her time on staff, including a fourth-place finish – the best in program history – in women’s outdoor track and field in 2018.

As a student-athlete, Ramey-Root was a four-time national qualifier in the heptathlon and distance medley relay (DMR) during her career at Concordia University Irvine, where she holds the program record in the heptathlon (4,244 pts.). She competed in two national indoor meets as the 400-meter leg of the DMR and two outdoor national meets in the heptathlon.

Ramey-Root graduated from Concordia University Irvine in 2013 with a bachelor of arts in history and political science before going on to complete her masters of arts and humanities in history at Claremont Graduate University in 2017.
