Dark rum! Gosling's if possible. No diet anything.

White Rum, well brands work just as well as expensive. skip the lime juice and just use a wedge of lime. using diet tonic cuts the cals & carbs by 3/4, but more importantly, it makes the sweetness more subtle, the drink more refreshing.

Nothing as good as cutting carbs when drinking white rum. Always think healthy!

This combination was suggested to me about 30 years ago by a friend when he tasted my Barbancourt Special Reserve rum. I tried it out, adding a wedge of lime it seemed to call for. Since then, my favorite cocktail, though I mix it now with Barbancourt 5-star & diet tonic.

mount gay is the only proper rum for this. Flor de Cana is a good sub.

S’okay. Still, I prefer gin in my tonic and my rum in coke though.

My go-to for this great summer drink is Mount Gay Barbados Rum.

Mount Gay Barbados rum is my go-to for this happy summer cocktail!

I concocted this while living in Grenada WI. ( didn't know it had already been discovered ). My friends drank G&T and I don't like gin. There was always rum around hence rum and tonic. Mount Gay Rum a bit more subtle than Meyer's and now easy to find.

Dark rum gives this a much deeper flavor than white rum. We found it was refreshing and delicious made exactly as written in the recipe.

To each his own, but this has been my favorite all-year drink for years. Meyer's Dark is the best way to go for my taste. As noted in the other posts, Fever Tree is excellent but expensive. My go-to tonic is always Schweppes (leaded), which has fizz and a good mid-sweet balance. But on the lime--I use a wedge squeezing and then dropping it in to the drink with a stir.

I only make this drink with Myers' Dark Rum and you have to go heavy on the lime. It tastes like vacation.

Mt Gay and Feverfew Indian-Style tonic is our favorite summer combo, oh, and lemon preferred over lime!

Fevertree is the brand I like.

I use half diet tonic and half San Pellegrino because to me even diet tonic is too sweet with rum.

Ah yes...my summer drink of choice. I do use diet tonic whenever possible for a lighter taste and of course less calories. For a change of pace I add a shake (or 2) of Ang. Bitters. It makes for a nice layering of flavors.
