Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Dispute over WP:CT/BLP and WP:CT/A-I content currently under discussion on the article talk page. Multiple inexperienced editors, apparently reacting to recent news, are disrupting the article during while the dispute is being discussed. This is part of a series of disputes accusing Hadid of antisemitism that have been under discussion since Nov'23. - Hipal (talk) 17:18, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question: any recent diffs of contested edits by non-WP:XC users, Hipal? El_C 19:27, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that everyone making edits related the these disputes in the past few months is edit-confirmed. --Hipal (talk) 20:11, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So are you asking for full protection, then? Is a week full protection likely to make a difference for a dispute that's been going on since Nov? Maybe protection isn't the measure and a more in-depth report to WP:AE or WP:ANI would be better...? El_C 20:28, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
One editor will likely be blocked or banned soon. That may be enough. Thanks for looking into it. --Hipal (talk) 20:37, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Feel free to relist if the edit war flares up. That definitely can be remedied by protection. El_C 20:52, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: IP disruption using roaming IPs. Previous IP was warned on their talk page Special:Diff/1239004827/1239004926. Talk page discussion is being ignored (Talk:International_Commerce_Centre#60_vs_67_seconds_on_elevator). IP is edit warring with multiple editors (see history). Unregistered editor using multiple IP addresses to force their opinion of the subject being "widely regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time" into the lead despite myself and other editors explaining that this is not suitable. Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: This talk page appears to be protected. I am not trying to edit the main article on Donald Trump, only to ask a question on the talk page. The question is, why are there no citations in the lead section fo the Donald Trump article? Citations only begin in the "personal life" section. Given Lukestark (talk) 03:40, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Lukestark. The lead section is a summary of the content in the body of the article. That being so, as the content in the body of the article is cited, it not necessary to repeat the citations in the lead section. The WP:Teahouse is a good place to ask questions like these. -- Malcolmxl5 (talk) 03:54, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Lukestark: It is common practise for the lede of a biography to be mostly, if not entirely, unsourced as it's supposed to summarise the content that is properly cited below. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 04:40, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: The information is inaccurate and inflammatory and anti-semitic 147.235.222.221 (talk) 05:11, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment:It's a redirect. What "information"? Also, it's not actually protected. - Sumanuil. (talk to me) 05:41, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not unprotected You mean Palestinian genocide accusation which is a contentious topic. Johnuniq (talk) 05:45, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: protection is no longer necessary because it's a pretty unpopular article about a song. plus songs that are more popular aren't usually protected 750h+ 06:05, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
