Temescal Canyon Road Repairs Are Planned — But The City Needs To Find The Money First

Officials haven't yet identified where the $800,000 needed to fix the road will come from. The Palisades' councilwoman is on the case.

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — For months, travel on Temescal Canyon Road has been hampered due to damages that resulted in a lane closure. City officials say they've got a plan to fix it — but haven't figured out how to pay for it yet.

Residents have been frustrated at a lack of progress toward repairing the street, which is one of the few major roads in and out of the Palisades. Councilmember Traci Park last week said she's stepping in to clear up some of the red tape.

"It turns out that the necessary work is going to be more extensive and more expensive than we had initially thought," Park said in a recorded video.

A portion of Temescal Canyon Road between Pacific Coast Highway and West Bowdin Street is facing structural instability thanks to water seepage following heavy winter rain. While the city's Bureau of Engineering has crafted a plan to fix the damage, city officials have not yet identified where the money will come from, according to Park.

On Friday, Park introduced a City Council motion that instructs city officials to determine where in the city budget the $800,000 necessary to complete the road repairs will come from.

Park did not indicate how long the identification of funding and subsequent repairs will take.

"I have personally been out there several times and I recognize the significant impact that this is having in your community," Park said in the video.

Park suggested residents use Chautauqua or Sunset boulevards as alternate routes.
