Twenty-Two High School Students Each Awarded $1,000 Scholarships By California Desert Association of REALTORS®

PALM DESERT (Calif.) -- The California Desert Association of REALTORS® has awarded a total of $22,000 in academic scholarships to 22 high school seniors from public Coachella Valley High Schools at its Annual Scholarship Breakfast May 23. For more than three decades, CDAR has rewarded bright, inspiring young people who want to further their education.

Some scholarship winners were planning to further their education at College of the Desert, trade schools or educational academies rather than attend four-year universities, according to CDAR Scholarship Committee Chair Mary Funk.

For a second year there was an awarding of a $1,000 scholarship to a student of a CDAR member, either a REALTOR® or Affiliate member. This year’s honoree is William Beyma. His mother is Christine “Chris” Cali of Keller Williams.

“We want to thank all our CDAR members, both REALTORS® and Affiliate members, who have helped to make our scholarship breakfast presentation such a heartfelt event,’’ said Funk. “The breakfast means so much to our association, and we are fortunate to be able to present scholarships to 22 of our brightest high school students from the valley every year.”

The honored students were joined by about 95 parents, relatives, and friends along with REALTORS® and real estate associate members at Monterey Country Club in Palm Desert.

The students, selected by the Scholarship Committee from hundreds of well qualified applicants, are:

· Horizon Continuation Schools – Pamela Cabrera

· La Quinta High School – Destiny Arce, Jaqueline Perez-Munoz

· Indio High School – Angelina Benavides. Ashley Garza Recio

· Cathedral City High School, Emily Garcia, Vianey Masaky

· Palm Springs High School – Marielle Anne Aguilar, Merilyn Carias

· Desert Hot Springs High School – Felipe Vega, Christine Castro

· Shadow Hills High School – Abigail Uribe, Jesus Lozoya

· Palm Desert High School - Natalie Cummings, Daniela Sumano

· Coachella Valley High School - Emily Santillanes, Guadalupe Perez Silva

· Desert Mirage High School - Juliana Gaytan, Liliana Hernandez-Beltran

· Rancho Mirage High School - Carlos Munoz, Madison Ferrer

· Realtor/Affiliate - William Beyma, La Quinta High School

Monies for the scholarships was raised at events such as the recent Gregg D. Spierling Memorial Golf Tournament, which brought in over $11,400. With the proceeds from the golf tournament, 90 percent went to the CDAR Scholarship Fund and 10 percent was donated to First Tee of the Coachella Valley.
