3 San Diego Area Students Named National Honor Society Semifinalists

SAN DIEGO, CA — Three students in San Diego County were awarded 2024 scholarships from the National Honor Society.

The San Diego area scholarship winners included Sonija Lam from Helix Charter High School in La Mesa, Greer Wetmore from Horizon Prep in Rancho Santa Fe, and Theresa Aguilar from Academy of Our Lady of Peace in San Diego. The students were named semifinalists and will receive $3,200 scholarships.

Five of the 25 finalists are from California, including students from Modesto, Rolling Hills Estates and Simi Valley. Finalists receive $5,625 scholarships.

Four Pillar Award winners will receive an additional $5,000, and the national winner will receive a total of $25,000, according to the organization.

The National Honor Society has been around for more than 100 years. Beyond scholarship, the organization's chapters emphasize service, leadership and character.

National Honor Society chapters operate in all 50 states and many schools around the world, serving more than 1.4 million students.
