SAN DIEGO, CA — A San Diego student has been named a 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholar, the U.S. Department of Education announced Thursday.

Kyle Tianshi, a senior at The Cambridge School in San Diego, was among 161 high school seniors recognized for their accomplishments in academics, the arts, and career and technical education fields. Tianshi is one of nine scholars from California and the only student from San Diego County.

"The 161 high school seniors selected for the 60th anniversary of the U.S. Presidential Scholars represent the best of our nation's schools and inspire hope in the bright future of this country," U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona said in a statement.
