AVON, CT — With a budget adopted, local taxpayers can now go about preparing to pay their taxes later this summer.

The Town of Avon Friday posted the latest tax payment information following the Avon Town Council's unilateral adoption of a town/school budget for 2024-25 on Wednesday.

After approving the budget, the town also set the mill rate.

With those two items being set, property tax bills can now be prepared, printed, and sent out to property owners.

"Please note that tax bills will be made available on the town’s website by the end of next week," wrote the Town of Avon Friday.

Taxpayers may visit the town’s website to review their bills and make payments at that time.

Officials said there is no need to wait to receive a hard copy of the bill in the mail and tax bills will be due and payable Aug. 1 with the last day to pay without penalty being Sept. 3.

In a controversial move, the council adopted a budget that was very similar to three different incarnations of town/school spending that were rejected at the polls.

It appears that post-revaluation sticker shock, caused by rising property values and an accompanying tax hike, played a role for many voters.

While the mill rate slightly decreased due to the revaluation, property owners who saw their values increase stand to pay a significant tax hike this year compared to what was paid a year ago.

The Town of Avon had set up a web page that allows taxpayers to calculate their tax bill based on the 2024-25 budget.
