Canton PD Mourns Loss Of Two Beloved Employees

The Canton Police Department Wednesday paid tribute to two retired workers who recently passed, a dispatcher and a crossing guard.

CANTON, CT — The Canton Police Department is mourning the recent losses of two beloved retirees who once served the CPD.

The CPD Wednesday announced that retired school crossing guard Susie Fitzgerald, 94, had died.

"Susie was incredibly dedicated to her job and to the Canton students who she faithfully protected for 28 years. Rain or shine, Susie was the smiling face that greeted our community before and after school," wrote police.

"We thank you for your service Susie, you will be missed. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers."

Police also announced the recent death of retired Canton Police Dispatcher Dane Ingvertsen.

"Dane served the Town of Canton as a part-time dispatcher for many years, in addition to the full time position he held with the Farmington Police Department, until his retirement in 2019," wrote the CPD.

"We are so thankful for Dane’s contributions to this department and to the Canton community."
