ShopRites of West Hartford and Canton Raise More Than $28,000 for Local Food Banks

Two Canton Associates to be featured on Special-Edition Cheerios Box released in the spring

Press Release

Managers and associates at the ShopRites in West Hartford and Canton were extraordinarily busy this fall, not only selling groceries, but also championing the local fight against hunger.

Through a variety of small fundraisers, including bake sales, bowling outings and dress down days, as well as larger efforts like the company’s annual Partners in Caring Golf Tournament, the two stores raised over $28,000 for local food banks in West Hartford and Canton.

“We recognize the need in our own backyards and are committed to doing all we can to help feed our hungry neighbors,” said Chuck Joseph, owner of Joseph Family Markets. “We are so proud of the passion and dedication of our customers and associates, who rally around this cause each year. It truly is a community effort.”

These tremendous efforts extended beyond providing greater visibility to the cause and additional food for local food pantries. As one of the winning stores (and the top fundraising store in the state), the ShopRite of Canton was honored with the selection of two associates to be featured on 125,000 special-edition Cheerios boxes, sold exclusively at ShopRite stores.

To earn the honor, the Canton team raised over $16,836, followed by the Joseph Family’s West Hartford store, which raised $11,570, for a combined total of over $28,000. Since the company’s inception in 2010, Joseph Family Markets has contributed over $121,000 to the local fight against hunger.

Canton ShopRite associates Dean Dingman of Terryville and Sarah Cheney of Canton were chosen to represent the store on the Cheerios box as a result of their tremendous fundraising efforts during the store’s Partners In Caring initiative to benefit local food banks last September. The special edition box will be unveiled in the spring.
