Motorcyclist Killed After Colliding With Car In Aurora: Police

Police said the crash happened Friday when a car made a left-hand turn into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.

AURORA, IL — A man died Friday night when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car at an Aurora intersection, police said.

The Aurora police and fire departments were dispatched to North Orchard and Sullivan roads shortly before 6:45 p.m. after a Harley-Davidson motorcycle crashed into a Nissan Versa, authorities said in a news release.

When officers arrived, they found the driver of the motorcycle suffering from serious injuries.

The motorcyclist — later identified as Christopher Joeckel, 48, of DeKalb — was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the Nissan was traveling northbound on Orchard Road when the driver attempted to make a left turn onto Sullivan Road. The motorcycle was traveling southbound on Orchard Road and was unable to stop while the Nissan was turning. As a result, the motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Nissan, police said.

The crash remains under investigation. The Kane County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of Joeckel's death.
