PALATINE, IL — If you haven't picked up your Scarecrow frame for the village's 13th annual Scarecrows on Parade decorating contest, you can do so at the Public Works Facility at 148 W. Illinois Avenue. Pickup times are 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Any Palatine family, business, non-profit organization, school or sports affiliate, homeowners' association, faith or civic group are invited to participate in the Oct. 3 contest, according to the village. Those wanting to participate are asked to call the Public Works Department at 847-705-5200 to reserve a frame and make plans to decorate their scarecrow.

Participants will then drop off and complete the final touch ups on their scarecrows between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., Oct. 3, at the Firefighters' Memorial, at Brockway and Slade streets. This is where the judging will take place, and there will be two judging categories with prizes awarded for each, according to the village.

  • The Youth Category will be for kids and youth groups with members 17 years old and younger.
  • The Adult Category will be for adults and adult organizations with members 18 years old and older.

Winners of the contest, sponsored by The Home Depot and hosted by the Palatine Beautification Commission, will be notified by mail, the village said.
