Fajardo had been a passenger in Cantoral’s pickup truck, which had broken down north of the exit for I-195, according to the police report.

Investigators say that just before 6 p.m., Fajardo was hit by a 2002 Chrysler Sebring driven by Kevin Beard, 53, of Laurel. Beard was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment, the report said.

Police said it was unclear what caused Beard to travel across southbound I-95 onto the shoulder, where he hit a concrete wall and continued on for nearly 200 feet before crashing into the parked pickup truck and Fajardo.

The Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office was briefed on the incident, and the investigation into the collision was continuing, police said Wednesday.
