Easton Woman Raises Alzheimer’s Awareness

Marcia Connors, a South Easton woman, will raise awareness for Alzheimer's.

EASTON, MA - From the Alzheimer's Association: Marcia Connors of South Easton will participate in the Alzheimer’s Association Neponset Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, September 16 at Patriot Place in Foxborough.

Marcia’s mother, Gert, had always been a vibrant, social, and driven woman. She was a lover of theater and symphony, was a social butterfly, started college at the age of fifty, and loved crossword puzzles. But after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, all of this seemed to slowly disappear. Gert had to be moved to a 24/7 care facility and could no longer be the social butterfly she once was.

“It was very sad to see my once vibrant mother diminish,” said Connors. “It is important to my family and me to try to keep others from getting this terrible disease.”

Marcia is fighting to end Alzheimer’s. She and Gert’s Kids, her Walk to End Alzheimer’s team, have raised $625, but their efforts are not stopping there. Wherever she goes, Marcia is sure to talk about the Walk and its efforts to end this disease. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s brings together thousands of people that have had Alzheimer’s or another dementia touch their lives and want to see a world without it.

“In order to reclaim the future for millions, we need dedicated people like Marcia to join the Walk to End Alzheimer’s,” said Jayne Paragona, Vice President of Development for the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter. “The Walk helps us raise awareness to continue our outreach and support for everyone impacted by Alzheimer's and dementia in our local communities. The dollars raised by Marcia fund those crucial support services while allowing us to invest in research towards treatment and a cure.”
