Boston Makes Top 10 Best Cities for Football (Go Pats!)

Massachusetts' favorite team will play in the Super Bowl this Sunday and Boston is the best place to celebrate.

Despite the drama of #DeflateGate - which quickly started trending on Twitter following accusations that the New England Patriots used underinflated balls during the AFC title game - the Pats never lost Massachusetts’ support.

The New England Patriots will play the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 1. The game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. EST on NBC to more than 170 million viewers.

That epic support and pride for our team is just one reason Boston has been named in the top ten best cities for football.

Boston ranked high in best performing team - the Patriots were second best only after the Denver Broncos - but lost major points when it came to ticket sales. WalletHub reported Boston as the city with the highest price for an NFL ticket.

Single-game tickets to Patriots games range in price from $99 to $295 per ticket.

If it wasn’t so costly to actually attend a game in Foxborough, Boston might have been number one. But the city’s wheelchair accessible stadium and friendly fans pushed Boston back to the top of the list, leaving Massachusetts ranked with a number nine best football city.

But best football cities aren’t the only football-related number WalletHub has been crunching. The site also broke down Super Bowl Sunday by the numbers.

A few highlights from WalletHub’s report:

  • More than 171 million people will watch the Super Bowl on TV alone
  • A 30 second Super Bowl commercial costs $4.5 million
  • 1.25 billion chicken wings will be eaten on Super Bowl Sunday
