Downpours Headed to Shrewsbury: Possible Flooding, Damaging Winds

It's hot and muggy and thunderstorms are on their way to the area.

SHREWSBURY, MA—The heavy air will be complemented by some scattered thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, the thunderstorms may bring flood threats to parts of southern New England, and rainfall could add up to about two inches per hour. There is also a low risk of an isolated severe storm with strong to damaging winds.

Another air quality alert is also in effect today from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. for much of the state, the second straight day with officials warning against unhealthy ground level ozone concentration.

Meanwhile, nearly all of Massachusetts will be trapped under some pretty intense humidity, particularly north of Boston.

For some, the storms will be a welcome relief. Temperatures Wednesday reached their highest point of the summer in much of the state.
