Food Drive Competition At UMass Chan Aims To 'Fill-A-Cruiser'

Police from Shrewsbury and Worcester will be at the UMass Chan Medical School Tuesday collecting food for the holidays.

SHREWSBURY, MA — An all-day food drive will take place Tuesday that the UMass Chan Medical School campus in Worcester with help from local police.

Shrewsbury police will be at the Lake Avenue campus from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday accepting food items to "fill-a-cruiser." The donations will then be distributed to Veterans Inc. and the Why Me Sherry's House support center for children living with cancer.

The food drive will also serve as somewhat of a competition: Shrewsbury police will compete with the Worcester police, UMass police, state police and UMass Chan students to see who can collect the most donations.

The drive is seeking canned and nonperishable items that can be used around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

Anyone with donations can head to the 55 Lake Ave. UMass Chan entrance on Tuesday to drop off goods. Look for the Worcester police mounted patrol or the state robot dog on once you're there.
