Fundraiser Aids Shrewsbury Teen Whose Mother Died In Crash

SHREWSBURY, MA — A fundraiser has been set up for the family of a Shrewsbury woman who died in a collision with a school bus last week.

The GoFundMe fundraiser is trying to raise $10,000 in memory of April Handley whose son, Jackson, is a sophomore at Shrewsbury High School.

"As a community, we hope to raise funds to help April's family in their time of need," organizer Jennifer Shimer said on the fundraiser page.

According to police, Handley, 49, collided with a school bus along South Quinsigamond Avenue near May Street around 11 a.m. Thursday. She died later at UMass Memorial in Worcester. The bus was not carrying students at the time of the crash.

As of Wednesday morning, the fundraiser for the Handley family had raised just under $9,000 toward its goal.
