Here's what to know for the week of Aug. 1:

Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury will celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday. Residents can head to the town common to hang out with local police and town officials, and enjoy food from local food trucks. National Night Out is a nationwide event held every August aimed at improving police and community relations.

Wayland, Sudbury

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will be in the area on Wednesday to treat the Sudbury River with an aquatic herbicide called Clearcast to control the spread of invasive water chestnut. During that time, the river will be off limits to people and pets. The treatment area is between Sherman’s Bridge Road in Sudbury and Route 27 in Wayland and will last through Friday.

Marlborough

A big motorcycle ride for the Shawna Jean Larassa scholarship fund will take place Sunday. The 50-mile ride starts and ends at the Marlborough Moose, 67 Fitchburg St. The ride is both a memorial and fundraiser in Larassa's memory. She died in 2009 after a car crash in Dudley.

Westborough

Westborough Youth and Family Services and other local groups are teaming up on a back-to-school supply drive for local students. The drive runs through Aug. 22, and donors can drop off items at the library, police station lobby, Westborough Senior Center, St. Luke's Parish and at the youth and family services office.
