Imagine will Offer Loss and Grief Specialist Community Training

The training will be held July 31st-August 2nd

(Najiyyah Bailey)

Imagine’s Training and Education Director, Veronica C. Ortiz, LPC has had a full and successful year conducting many training courses in schools, organizations and workplaces. There's been a great deal of interest in the series of courses created under the heading “How to Support Someone Coping with Loss.” The first in this series is entitled 101: Understanding Loss, Grief and Mourning. Many who complete this training request additional courses that include 201: Diving into Grief through an Intersectional Lens and 301: Skill Building, Planning and Application. Once these courses are completed, staff from many schools and organizations go on to complete Imagine’s Loss and Grief Specialist Training.

In response to the high level of interest in these programs and the recent passage of the Grief Bill, NJ-S3330 requiring grief education in health classes for grades 8-12, Imagine plans to offer all four courses over a 3-day period from July 31st to August 2nd to interested community members.

Social Workers attending the training receive 6 continuing education credits for the first day of training which includes 101, 201 and 301. The next two days of training provide an opportunity for attendees to become Loss and Grief Specialists.

Imagine’s Loss and Grief Specialist Training is experiential and creates space to reflect on personal and professional losses. The training is designed to run like a grief peer support group with a chance for participants to share their own stories of loss and gain familiarity and practice with the companioning skills used in Imagine’s support groups. The training will provide participants with tools and knowledge to help those who are grieving in a personal and/or professional setting.

Enrollment is limited, so please visit www.imaginenj.org if you’d like to sign up. There is a fee that’s on a sliding scale.
