YAPHANK, NY — Thousands of students are expected to tour the Suffolk County Police Department's headquarters in Yaphank for Police Week beginning Monday.

The department is opening its doors to give students of all ages an up-close look at police operations.

During the first day of the event, high school students will be introduced to the ins and outs of a law enforcement career, view the workings of a mock crime scene, and take part in demonstrations about distracted and impaired driving.

Students will also see mock car stops to learn what they should do when stopped by the police.

For the next three days, elementary school and junior high school students will attend the event with age-related experiences.

Throughout all four days, Crime Scene, Emergency Services, Highway Patrol, and the Marine Bureau will have displays for students to tour. There will be various police vehicles, equipment, and antique police cars will be on display.
