5th Tornado Confirmed On Long Island: NWS

The tornado count continues to rise from the weekend's severe storm.

NORTH BELLPORT, NY — The National Weather Service announced Tuesday that a 5th tornado touched down in North Bellport over the weekend.

A NWS Storm Survey team, in coordination with Suffolk County Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Services and the state's Division of Homeland Security, confirmed it was an EF-0 level tornado.

An EF-0 tornado is considered weak with winds between 65 and 85 mph.

The information released by officials is from preliminary storm data.

There was a total of eight tornadoes on Saturday, including five on Long Island and three in Connecticut. The strongest on Long Island, an EF-1, was in Shirley. An EF-1 tornado also touched down in the Hudson Valley on Friday.
