C.A.R. Captain Austin Roe Society families go to State Conference

New York State Children of the American Revolution holds their 99th annual conference on March 24-25th at The Red Lion in Albany, New York.

Families of the Captain Austin Roe Society NYSCAR attended the annual state conference in Albany, New York. This past year their theme has been Connecting with our Veterans. The state project was to raise funds to support the Honor Flight Network, which is a non-profit organization created solely to honor American Veterans for all their sacrifices. They raised funds to send veterans to Washington D.C. so they could visit the memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices. The local Honor Flight is out of Mac Arthur Airport. Supporters gather to send them off in the morning and then give them a heroes welcome at night when they return home.

The children learn to be patriots and respect the American Flag with the help of adult leadership. The New York State Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Regent Nancy Zwetsch attended and offered support to the children. Sgt. Brian Barry represented local military persons and veterans.

Graham Nathan, the Chaplain of this local Patchogue society, was elected as Vice President of the Long Island District. He will plan the annual meeting of this district to be held July 28th. In addition to Graham, children attending the conference were Naomi Kirkup, Secretary; Eliana Kirkup, Nathanael Kirkup who served as pages and aides. Jeremiah Kirkup, Cordelia Nathan-Barry, and Sebastian Nathan-Barry also attended. The children run their own meeting according to Robert's Rules. The meeting begins with a procession of flags and officers. Graham led this procession carrying the American Flag. Naomi , Eliana, and Nathanael carried chapter flags. Naomi gave the society report to the state President Shayla Cole. Other activities included socializing at a pool and pizza party. They entertained the attendants by telling jokes too! These youth are the future leaders of our country.
