Children's Hands helping Hands

Captain Austin Roe Society Children of the American Revolution collect gloves and bake cookies for those in need.

The Captain Austin Roe Society of the Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.) met at St. John's Lutheran Church in Holbrook to collect gloves for the needy. The Col. Josiah Smith Chapter NSDAR supports this society. Hats and scarves were also donated. Donations will be brought to Angels of Long Island in Patchogue who called out for help to fill food pantry shelves. Clothing donations are also needed, especially with the arctic blast and cold weather.

A Hands Helping Hands grant from Thrivent Financial supported the event.

The children are direct descendants from Patriots in the American Revolution. Patriots may have been a soldier, officer, helped the sick and injured, supplied food and shelter, or paid supply tax. One of the children's patriots,, Samuel Price, paid supply tax and made gunpowder! Another Patriot, Benjamin Lattimore, was a war veteran and founder of the First School for people of color in Albany as well as founder of the Albany African American Methodist Episcopal Church.
