Long Island Weather: Dangerous Storms Approaching

BREAKING: A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Long Island. Lime-size hail and an isolated tornado are possible.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Long Island as a line of dangerous storms nears the region. The severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 11 p.m. Tuesday.

"Get ready for a rough ride between 4pm to 8pm from west to east. Wind gusts of 60 mph or more heavy rains and hail are possible," Joe Cioffi, a meteorologist for WPIX-TV and FiOS1 News, wrote on his website. "The slow moving cold front will pass offshore tonight."

The greatest risk for severe storms is in areas north and west of New York City. A tornado warning has already been issued in the Hudson Valley.
