Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued for Patchogue

Thunderstorms and possible hail are in the forecast.

Thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday on Long Island have the potential to produce strong winds and hail, according to the National Weather Service.

A hazardous weather outlook issued by the NWS is currently in effect for the entire island.

Winds may briefly gust to 40-45 mph late Monday afternoon. A chance of showers and thunderstorms will continue through Tuesday, the NWS says.

Some of the thunderstorms could produce isolated strong winds or large hail, with the greatest chance coming on Tuesday afternoon. The probability for severe weather increases as one moves east to west across the island, according to NWS forecasts.

For those heading to the beach on Monday, there is a high rip current risk at all ocean-facing beaches, the NWS says. Waves of 2-3 feet will build to 3-4 feet Monday afternoon and evening.

High temperatures will reach the mid-70s across the island Monday and Tuesday. The second half of the week is expected to be drier and warmer with sunny skies and temperatures topping out near 80 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
