High Wind Warning Issued For Long Island

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Suffolk County and a wind advisory for Nassau County. They will be in effect from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday.

West winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are likely in Suffolk. Gusts up to 55 mph are expected in Nassau.

Winds will blow down several trees and power lines, the National Weather Service says. Scattered power outages are expected and travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.

Thursday Night- Rain. Patchy fog. Steady temperature around 41. Northeast wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday- Rain likely, mainly before noon. Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. Windy, with a southeast wind 13 to 23 mph becoming west 27 to 37 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Friday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 27. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph.

Saturday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 39. Wind chill values between 15 and 25. West wind 13 to 15 mph.

Saturday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 24. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming northeast after midnight.

Sunday- Partly sunny, with a high near 41.

Sunday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34.

Monday- A 50 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 48.
