James Van Der Beek To Host 'Varsity Blues' Screening On Long Island

The "Dawson's Creek " alum will lead a discussion about the 1999 football film in a Q&A after the screening.

PATCHOGUE, NY — Actor James Van Der Beek, of Dawson's Creek fame, is set to host a screening of "Varsity Blues" at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts o May 12, theater officials said.

Van Der Beek is best known for his role as budding filmmaker Dawson Leary in the late 90s WB Series, "Dawson's Creek," and for starring as Johnny “Mox” Moxon in "Varsity Blues" in 1999.

"Varsity Blues" follows the story of how a backup quarterback is selected to lead a football team in Texas after its star is hurt, according to imdb.com.

Van Der Beek's recent credits include the ABC sitcom, "Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23," in which he played a fictionalized version of himself, the Emmy-nominated F/X series, "Pose," for Ryan Murphy, and the highly-rated Viceland Series, "What Would Diplo D0?," in which he portrays the music producer Diplo, officials said.

Tickets run $59 to $109 and go on sale Friday.
