LONG ISLAND, NY — The odds of accumulating snow on Long Island this week have fallen, but wintry weather may still make for a rough morning commute on Thursday. Less than an inch of snow is expected Wednesday night into early Thursday, the National Weather Service says.

Freezing rain is what may cause issues on the roads. At the moment, the weather service says freezing rain is likely on the island from about 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. Thursday.

"Some of the most disastrous winter weather storms are due primarily to freezing rain," the weather service says.
