Long Island U.S. Army Veteran's 100th Birthday Celebrated With Day In His Honor

Feb. 26 was proclaimed Dolphus Knowles Day in the Town of Brookhaven.

BROOKHAVEN, NY — U.S. Army veteran Dolphus Knowles' 100th birthday celebration on Feb. 26 was marked by Brookhaven Town officials declaring a day in his honor.

Knowles was joined at the Bellhaven Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care in Brookhaven by friends and family, as well as Town Councilman Michael Loguercio, who presented a proclamation to him.

Knowles, who served in the Army's Smoke Screen Unit during World War II, is the oldest living member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8300 in East Patchogue. After the war, he spent 32 years with the United States Postal Service.

In recognizing Knowles’ birthday, Loguercio thanked him for his service to the country
and for his many years in the postal service.

"Today we celebrate you and declare this day as 'Dolphus Knowles Day' in the Town of Brookhaven," he said.
