Long Island Expressway To Plan Overnight Detours: NYSDOT

From Sept. 9 to 12, motorists will experience overnight detours near the Towns of Islip and Brookhaven, department of transportation says.

TOWNS OF ISLIP AND BROOKHAVEN, NY — The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists of upcoming overnight detours eastbound on the Long Island Expressway, or Interstate 495, in the Towns of Islip and Brookhaven to facilitate a bridge cleaning project.

Traffic will be detoured onto the Service Road between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on the following dates at these locations, weather permitting:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 7 – Exit 58 (Old Nichols Road);
  • Thursday, Sept. 8 – Exit 61 (Suffolk County Route 19/Patchogue-Holbrook Road);
  • Friday, Sept. 9 – Exit 63 (Suffolk County Route 83/North Ocean Avenue);
  • Monday, Sept. 12 – Exit 56 (State Route 111).

Motorists are urged to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
