PMHS Robotics Team Achievements Continue on International Level

Patchogue-Medford Achieves Sixth Place at FIRST Robotics Long Island Regional and Hosts Chinese Taipei Team

MEDFORD, NEW YORK—The Patchogue-Medford High School Robotics Team has continued its exceptional success this school year. The team placed sixth in the FIRST Robotics Long Island Regional competition at Hofstra University, sponsored by Optimum, against teams from across the world, including Chinese Taipei, France, Turkey, and Canada.

“The Patchogue-Medford High School Robotics Team’s accomplishments speak to the passion for STEM throughout our District,” said Patchogue-Medford School District Superintendent Dr. Donna Jones. “We are committed to providing exceptional programs that grant our students opportunities to display their creativity and accumulated knowledge and allow them to compete and be victorious on a global stage.”

The FIRST Robotics Long Island Regional competition was a fantastic experience replete with international learning, team building, networking, and STEM exploration. In addition, Patchogue-Medford High School had the wonderful opportunity to host Chinese Taipei Team 8595. Patchogue-Medford and Chinese Taipei students worked alongside each other on projects and excitedly exchanged ideas and knowledge.

These spring experiences build upon a year full of achievement for the Patchogue-Medford High School Robotics Team. In the fall of this academic year, the team was awarded a S10,000 grant by Zebra Technologies, a global leader in enterprise visibility and data capture. Patchogue-Medford High School also won the Rockwell Automation sponsored Creativity Award and the Innovation in Control Award and finished fourth in pool play and served as the finals alliance captain at the School Business Partnerships of Long Island Regional 2 competition.
