EAST PATCHOGUE, NY — PSEG Long Island has begun circuit reliability upgrades in East Patchogue, North Bellport, and Brookhaven to improve the reliability of the energy grid, officials stated in a news release.

The storm-hardening work on the circuit began in early January as a part of the “Power On” program, and it will last for about three months.

Licensed and approved contractors will work along mainline distribution lines in the hamlets to ensure traffic moves safely, with PSEG providing cones, flaggers, and signage at the worksites, as needed. Local officials will be notified in advance regarding any potential traffic concerns.

Officials say the improvements will include:

  • The replacement of stronger poles capable of withstanding winds up to 135 mph. The new poles will be about the same height as the existing poles, have stronger bases, and will be placed no more than five feet from current locations. PSEG will actively coordinate the removal of old poles with other outside agencies.
  • Narrow profiles to help wires deflect falling limbs.
  • Stronger wire will be more resilient and durable.
  • Upgrading: PSEG will upgrade or replace worn equipment as necessary.

PSEG crews will work on the following streets in East Patchogue, North Bellport and Brookhaven:
