Traffic Advisory: Construction To Close Part Of Sunrise Highway

Starting this week, work on the highway will cause closures in the towns of Islip and Brookhaven.

According to the New York State Department of Transportation, the closures will take place from Wednesday, May 5 through Friday, May 7 and again on Monday, May 10, to accommodate bridge cleaning operations.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Drivers are advised that there will be some overnight closures of Sunrise Highway in the towns of Islip and Brookhaven starting this week.

According to the New York State Department of Transportation, the closures will take place from Wednesday, May 5 through Friday, May 7 and again on Monday, May 10, to accommodate bridge cleaning operations.

All traffic from Sunrise Highway will be detoured onto the Service Road between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. at the following times and locations:

  • Wednesday, May 5 - eastbound between exit 49 (Lakeland Avenue/Suffolk County Route 93) and exit 50 (Lincoln Avenue);
  • Thursday, May 6 - westbound between exit 50 and exit 49;
  • Friday, May 7 - eastbound between exit 52A (North Ocean Avenue/Suffolk County Route 83) and exit 53 (State Route 112);
  • Monday, May 10 - westbound between exit 53 & exit 52A.
