Heading To The Shore? Nor'Easter Could Be On The Way

Heavy downpours, flooding and strong winds could impact the region beginning on Friday.

The first “big” storm of the hurricane season to hit New Jersey could happen on Friday, a nor’easter bringing heavy rains, strong winds and possible flooding.

The storm will primarily impact southern New Jersey, from Monmouth and Mercer counties to the south.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook, saying heavy rain should arrive on Thursday night and linger through Friday and Saturday. Rip Currents at the Jersey Shore are likely.

Philly.com and NBCPhiladelphia said that forecast models show the potential for anor’easter, a strong storm that will be moving slowly and bring significant rain not only to the Shore, but all the way to the Philadelphia area.

Here is the National Weather Service’s forecast for the Jersey Shore:

Thursday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 10 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. South wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a 10th of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday: A chance of rain and thunderstorms before 7 a.m., then rain likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m., then a chance of rain after 2 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Northeast wind 9 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a 10th and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. Northeast wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a 10th of an inch possible.

Saturday: A chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. Northeast wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
