Mentor Marsh

Discover Natural Ohio
Mentor Marsh is the largest coastal wetland in Northeast Ohio, and part of the property is a designated State Nature Preserve co-owned by the Museum. Classes meet at the Mentor Marsh Carol H. Sweet Nature Center. Half-day group activities include an indoor, hands-on program and field explorations in the marsh or on the trails, with programs available for K-12.

Programs are offered year-round and are aligned with Ohio Academic Content Standards. These programs can also be tailored to meet the needs of your group (scout merit badges, homeschool groups, etc.) Limit 30 students per class. One adult chaperone is required for every 10 students.

$125 for a single class
$100/class for scheduling 3 or more classes

Mentor Marsh Explorations

Students investigate the Marsh's wetlands and surrounding habitats and collect field data. Field trip includes both an indoor program with hands-on activity stations and an outdoor field exploration in the Marsh on our boardwalk. Explorations include plant and animal adaptations to this watery world and using macroinvertebrates as water quality indicators. This place-based program makes connections with the community and wetland protection issues.

Investigating Vernal Pools

Students investigate woodland wetlands. Field trip includes both an indoor program with hands-on activity stations and an outdoor field exploration in wetlands on one of the nature preserve trails. Explorations include plant and animal adaptations to this watery world. This place-based program makes connections with the community and wetland protection issues.

Deer and Wildflowers

Available for grades 9-12. Spring surveys using quadrants to investigate effects of deer browsing on plant populations. Focus is on forest ecosystems and using plant identification keys.
