My fiancé dumped me three weeks before our planned £30k wedding - he didn't give me a reason so this is what I did on my wedding day instead

  • This is what Jessica Buchanan, 33, from Canada, did instead of getting married

A former bride-to-be has revealed how she was dumped by her fiancé just three weeks before their wedding after spending £30,000 on the big day.

Jessica Buchanan, 33, a make-up artist and content creator from Toronto, Canada, met her partner in 2010 at a university party when they were both 19 years old.

In March 2022, Ms Buchanan's boyfriend proposed to her in what she described as a 'huge proposal' which she likened to a movie scene.

While Jessica threw herself into planning every single aspect of the wedding, picking the venue of converted greenhouse that required a £4k0 deposit, her husband-to-be did not appear to share her enthusiasm.

She began to notice that things were going awry once her and her partner began to argue as the wedding drew closer - something they had never done much before.

After having her bridal shower on April 1 2023, she admitted 'a growing feeling of dread' as her wedding day drew closer.

Speaking to The Sun, Jessica said: 'A couple of days later, I'd had a bad feeling all morning and was still trying to calm my nerves when Adam walked in. The second I saw his face, I just knew.

'But hearing him say that he couldn't get married, I lost it. A wave of anger and humiliation hit me. As I shouted, Adam stood there looking broken.

'He couldn't give any specific reasons – he just kept saying how terrible he felt, how he hated doing this. We knew our relationship was over.

'He went to stay at his dad's, and I was left at home, surrounded by wedding stuff. I couldn't stop crying. We'd wasted around £16k, but my family were so supportive – they only cared about my happiness.'

Jessica added that, although she did not want to see her former partner but did acknowledge the need to tell guests that their wedding would not go ahead as, by this point, it was just three weeks away.

She said that they sent invitees a message which read: 'The wedding has been cancelled, please respect our privacy.'

While many would have been shocked and saddened by such sudden news, others even thought the message was a late April Fool's joke.

Not being able to face spending her wedding day at home, Jessica made the impromptu decision to go to a Taylor Swift concert in Texas - over 1,300 miles away and at the cost of £1,700 ($2,180) for a ticket.

Instead of walking down the aisle with her husband as planned on April 21 2023, Jessica attended Swift's concert at NRG Stadium in Houston - while her wedding was nowhere in sight and tucked away in her wardrobe.

Jessica said that partaking in such an experience has helped her to let go of her anger over the past 16 months.

Now dating someone new, she added that her planned marriage 'would never have worked' but that the former bride and groom to be are civil to one another on the occasions they have met since their split.

She added: 'I don't know if I'll ever get married. But I've learned how important it is to be honest with the person you love. No relationship can survive without it.'
