Prince William put rivalries aside as he bonded with King Felipe of Spain at the Euros final

They were cheering for rival teams, but that didn't seem to dampen the hint of a bromance between Prince William and King Felipe of Spain at last night's Euros final.

The Prince of Wales warmly greeted King Felipe V of Spain with a hug and a handshake during last night's Euros final - as both brought their children to watch the nail-biting game.

Prince William, 42, was all smiles as he and his son George, 10, chatted with the Spanish monarch ahead of England's defeat at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, and also shook hands with 17-year-old Infanta Sofia, as they readied themselves for the anticipated match.

Last year, Prince William and his wife Kate mingled with King Felipe in Wimbledon's Royal Box at the men's singles final that saw Carols Alcaraz emerge victorious.

Felipe and his wife Letizia have also met the Prince of Wales on their previous state visit and attended the late Queen's funeral in October 2022.

Felipe's maternal great-grandfather, King Constantine I of Greece (1868 - 1923), was Prince Philip's uncle and the Spanish King referred to the late Queen Elizabeth as  'Aunt Lilibet' - using the name reserved for her closest friends and family.

After Spain's victory, Felipe and his Sofia beamed as they joined football players in celebrating.

The father-of-two, 56, beamed as he and his daughter jumped up and down while holding the trophy.

The pair could not hide their excitement as they cheered from the stands and later celebrated with the team.

A cheerful Felipe happily shook the hands of every athlete as they received their medals.

He donned a bright cherry-coloured tie to match with Spain's football uniform, which is both red and yellow.

The royal looked dapper in a navy blue suit and crisp white shirt as he took his seat in the stands alongside Sofia.

Elsewhere Sofia also channelled support for Spain in a bright crimson-coloured smart trousers and a simple, yet sophisticated, white blouse.

The official Spanish Royal Family's X account tweeted: 'EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS!!! You have been the best team, you have made us enjoy every game and all of Spain is proud of you. Congratulations @SEFutbol

'This result does justice to what we have seen on the field throughout #EURO2024'

Upon watching Gareth Southgate's team lose the match, William tweeted: 'This time it just wasn’t meant to be. We’re all still so proud of you. Onwards @England. W.'

At the start of the game, the official Spanish Royal Family website shared a snap of them together, along with Aleksander Ceferin president of UEFA and wrote: 'The King and Infanta Sofía, along with the Prince of Wales and Prince George, in the final match of UEFA EURO 2024 between the Spanish and English teams.'

The Prince and Princess of Wales' official X account then reposted the image and wrote: 'May the best team win,' along with the English and Spanish flag emojis.

King Charles also showed his support for England via a statement which said: 'My wife and I join all our family in wishing you the warmest congratulations on reaching the final of the U.E.F.A. European Championship - and in sending our very best wishes for Sunday’s match.

'If I may encourage you to secure victory before the need for any last minute wonder-goals or another penalties drama, I am sure the stresses on the nation’s collective heart rate and blood pressure would be greatly alleviated!

'Good luck, England.'

Newly elected Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer was also in attendance with his wife. The Labour leader wrote: 'Made it to Berlin,' as he was snapped in the stands donning a red tie.

Prince George and Prince William experienced a full range of emotions as they watched England play Spain last night.

After Spain scored earlier in the match, Prince George looked visibly disappointed as he took a seat next to his father. But Cole Palmer's glorious goal reignited the royals' dream of a Euros win last night.

The duo looked visibly tense and holding their heads in their hands as Cole neared the goal.

William and George then jumped up out of their seats and shouted in celebration alongside Keir Starmer.

Following their celebration, Prince William turned to hug Prince George, who appeared overwhelmed with joy.

However, William and George's joy was short-lived as Spain scored again just minutes later - thereby securing the Euros 2024 victory.

The father and son appeared visibly heartbroken as they stared out at the pitch with their heads in their hands.

King Felipe's eldest daughter and heir to the Spanish throne, Princess Leonor of Spain, was not in attendance as she recently travelled to Portugal on her first official solo visit abroad.

The royal, 18, stuck with what she knew and took style inspiration from her mother, Queen Letizia - who often sports eye-catching, vibrant ensembles.

The heir to the Spanish throne donned a ruby outfit consisting of a crisp button-up blazer and matching flared trousers

Not wanting to draw attention away from her bold fashion statement, Leonor stepped out in satin nude heels and wore a simple white t-shirt underneath her jacket.

The future Queen looked in high spirits for her first official trip away by herself as she was snapped getting into the private jet with a huge smile on her face.

She flew to Lisbon and was received by the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, at Belém Palace.

He presented her with one of the country's highest decorations after inviting her to visit the country.

According to the official Spanish Royal Family website, the visit had a particular focus on environmental protection and ocean conservation.
