Now THAT'S winging it! Meghan's wedding make-up artist reveals he and the Duchess planned her bridal beauty look over TEXT and didn't do a trial run

  • Daniel Martin is based in New York and has known Meghan Markle for 10 years
  • He did the Duchess's look on her wedding day, but wasn't able to test it before
  • The pair liaised the look over text and opted for her now iconic natural look

The Duchess of Sussex's makeup artist has told how he arranged Meghan's wedding day via over text message as the pair were too busy to do a trial run.

Daniel Martin told Harper's Bazaar he was too busy to travel to London beforehand so they had no opportunity to practice the look beforehand - despite some 17 million people tuning in to watch the big day.

'I was in New York and she was in London and there was no time because of my crazy schedule to be able to go there,' said Martin, who joined Meghan in New York last week for her lavish baby shower.

'I knew exactly what she wanted and the day of the wedding was just us getting together and doing her make-up like usual.'

Busy! Daniel revealed that he was too busy to travel to London before the wedding to plan out Meghan's makeup for the big day, so they had to coordinate via text

He added: 'I knew she just wanted to be radiant, glowy, and polished with nothing too done. There was so much structure in the dress that I believe if she had any more make-up on, you wouldn't even look at the dress, and that wasn't the intention.'

Martin, who works as an ambassador for Dior and has known Meghan for more than a decade, added that he opted for a natural look for the Duchess because of different lighting situations throughout the day.

He noted that the makeup would look 'completely different' as the bride rode in the car to the chapel with mother Doria, stood at the altar, and took a carriage ride in the bright sunshine with her new husband.

The beauty guru added: 'If I started heavier and she got into the church, her make-up would've looked a lot darker than when you see her in natural light. It was also noon, when the light is at it's highest.'

For her evening reception look, a Stella McCartney dress, Daniel opted for a darker make-up look 'because it was the evening and I did more definition on the eyes, making them darker and smokier.'

Evidently still close to the Duchess, Daniel last week shared a picture of the personalised iced cookies from her baby shower in New York.

With the image, he wrote, 'Such an incredible day celebrating,' and added the hashtag '#babylove' with three emojis, showing confetti, a teddy bear and red balloon.

Meghan , 37, made a whirlwind trip across the pond to the Empire State in total luxury to celebrate the upcoming birth of her child with Prince Harry with her American friends.

The photo Martin posted on Instagram showed cookies shaped and decorated like signature baby shower decor.

One delectable-looking snack was garnished to resemble a stork with a small blanket in its beak that looked to be holding a newborn baby, and a second was decorated like a rattle with a bow tied around its handle.

Indoors and outdoors: He said he opted for a natural look because of different lighting situations throughout the day

A third cookie looked like a tiny baby bib, with the word 'baby' written across it in script, so as not to leave a single person a guessing as to what it might be.

Markle ended her extravagant $500,000 (£377,300) five-night trip to New York City in the most high-flying of ways - by boarding a luxury private jet bound for the United Kingdom, just hours after she was thrown the lavish shower by her closest friends in a $75,000 (£-a-night penthouse.

The seven-months-pregnant duchess was pictured boarding the private plane on Wednesday evening, less than an hour after she was seen leaving her swanky Upper East Side hotel.

The Mark Hotel served as the venue for her star-studded baby shower, which was thrown for her especially by Amal Clooney and Serena Williams.
