Today fans left 'speechless' over Hoda Kotb's brutal question in resurfaced clip of cooking segment

Today fans have been left stunned after an old clip of Hoda Kotb interviewing someone on the morning show back in 2010 went viral, with one person describing her line of questioning as 'insane.'

Hoda, who recently celebrated her 60th birthday with her family on August 9, was interviewing culinary journalist Amy Reiley about her book The Love Diet alongside then cohost Kathie Lee Gifford when she asked a rather shocking question.

Instead of enquiring about the contents of Amy's book, Hoda decided to go straight in and grill her about the co-author of her book - Juan-Carlos Cruz - who, at the time, had been accused of a murder for hire plot against his wife, Jennifer Campbell.

Refusing to dance around the topic, Hoda steamed right in and said: 'We wanna get a piece of business out of the way before we start, there's a co-author, Juan-Carlos Cruz, who is accused in a murder for hire plot with his wife. There's a plea bargain happening today, what's the stat? What's going on there?'

Amy looked taken aback by Hoda's blunt question but calmly replied: 'Erm, I know that today there's a hearing in a couple of hours and supposedly there's going to be plea bargain, that's really all I know.'

Amy continued: 'Juan-Carlos and I have been communicating by letter. He can't talk with me about his case.

'Basically, all I know is that this is a man who is very, very passionate about cooking for better health and sharing it with other people, and that's why we did The Love Diet together.'

Kathie then interjected and said: 'But you're friends and you're wishing him all the best?' as Amy replied: 'Yes, and I promised myself I wouldn't cry today, so....'

Hoda swiftly moved the segment on as she replied: 'No, you're not going to, we're gonna cook! So what are we making?' to which Amy responded: 'So we are making a black truffle lover's lasagna....'

The clip was posted on X on Sunday alongside the caption, 'I could give you a thousand tries and you'd never guess the first question they ask about this book,' and it has been viewed 1.3 million times.

Many people were quick to comment on the post and Hoda's no nonsense questioning as one person wrote: 'Not the ideal way to begin that segment...,' while another said: 'I feel so sorry for this woman.'

A third person claimed: 'Oh boy, Hoda did her so dirty there!' while a fourth X user said: 'What the actual f*** who opens a conversation like that.'

'Hoda is insane oh my God!!' someone else commented, while another person added: 'It's hilarious and then it's horrifying.'

A different person joked: 'Hoda was there for TEAAAA and nothing more,' while another suggested: 'This makes me feel like they trapped her here ONLY to ask about an ongoing trial with her co-writer.'

Someone else claimed: 'Holy shit this is incredible,' while another used admitted it had left them 'speechless.'

On December 13, 2010, Juan-Carlos was jailed for nine years for trying to hire two homeless men to murder his wife.

The chef, who was known at the time as the Calorie Commando, pleaded no contest to attempting to hire the men to strangle his lawyer wife, Jennifer, to death.

He had offered them $500 each and supplied them with details of her movements in the Los Angeles area.

The plan went wrong when the prospective killers went to the police.

The men later secretly recorded Juan-Carlos who had his own show on television's Food Network channel, offering them the money to carry out the crime.
