Spencer Matthews has admitted his body feels like it's been 'put in the tumble dryer' as he battled 'horrendous' attacks during his desert marathon challenge.

The Made In Chelsea star, 36, opened up about his grueling task as he revealed he he cannot stand still because he would be attacked and bitten by flies.

He said he has become so exhausted that he has even started to fall asleep while running.

Spencer is running 30 marathons in 30 days across the Jordanian desert in the peak of summer for Global’s Make Some Noise charity.

And as he passes 600km, Spencer joined Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby and explained that between his daily 15 hour running stints, he will only ever catch four to five hours.

After Jordan asked how Spencer was feeling, he said: 'Honestly, I feel like my body has been put in a tumble dryer.

'It's very hard to imagine getting going again each morning, because when you do manage to get sleep – and sleep is the commodity out here, it's really hard to sleep properly – so when you do get a good night's sleep, your body relaxes a bit and you wake up just like very stiff, very achy, lots of niggles.

'But also, the body is holding up probably better than I expected it to be at this time.'

'The flies are no good. Like, of all the things', he added.

'I think if the team were given the choice to actually run into a hyaena or get rid of the flies, we might choose the hyaena, because there's five of us.'

While he was unable to get over how bad the fly situation is during his daily running, he revealed that for the first few kilometers, he was running 'unconscious'.

He told the presenters: 'But like, the flies are horrendous at times. They bite from time to time as well, but they're just all over you.

'It's when you stop in the sun that they're just all over you, and they're just really irritating. You know, nobody loves flies, I don't think. But the fly situation is not great. But also, I can't stress enough the sleep. It's like, you're very, very lucky to get between four-and-a-half and five hours sleep.

'Repeat that 15 times whilst running 15 marathons in the desert, your body just starts to react really poorly to that. It's really easy to fall into extreme negative headspace. I'm half asleep for the first 10km of every day. Like, if I was to close my eyes running the first 10km, I'd hit the deck type thing. We call them free kilometres, because you're not even conscious, basically.

'But as well, listen, like it is rough and it is hard, but I would also like to say that we're having an amazing time. It's an incredible journey, I feel very privileged to be able to run in this part of the world.

'And, you know, for such a great cause, raising money for Global's Make Some Noise is driving us forward and it is a real pleasure. But yeah, it's pretty tough. I've ran over 630km so far.'

His comments come just days after he revealed he suffered a foot injury following his 36th birthday celebrations in the Jordanian Desert which could have ended his marathon challenge

Appearing on Heart Breakfast with JK and Kelly Brook on Friday, Spencer admitted he could barely put any pressure on his foot before receiving treatment from his physiotherapist Johnny.

During the interview, Kelly, 44, caught up with Spencer on his birthday festivities before asking him how his body was feeling.

Spencer then revealed his body would be 'unusable' if it weren't for his physiotherapist who offered him advice on how to deal with the problem.

He said: 'It would be unusable if it weren't for Johnny the physio. I had a niggle the other day that I thought was going to end the challenge. Like literally, I couldn't put pressure on my right foot, and Johnny just advised me on how to deal with it.'

'We stopped for 10 minutes, he treated it, a bit slower, and then properly went through it that evening. It was kind of good as new the following day, I literally couldn't believe it.'

'So, I've had faith in the team since the beginning, but obviously, I'm being helped by amazing people. If I was on my own here, I just I wouldn't be able to do it. There's no chance.'

Spencer previously spoke about how he was missing his wife Vogue Williams, 38, and earlier this week he celebrated his 36th birthday in style with his team.

Discussing how he celebrated his 36th year on earth and whether or not he was treated on his birthday, Spencer said: 'The team were incredible. Instead of going back to normal camp, we went to one of the driver’s brothers – what would you call it, Chris? An eco-tourist kind of place? It had an actual room with walls and a ceiling, and doors and windows.'

He continued: 'They made necklaces for me out of rocks and tin cans and all kinds of stuff. And I got a massive cake. So, I have to say, I felt very special, and it was a complete surprise. So, rock on the team.'
