Katie Holmes reveals how she'll cope with Suri Cruise flying the nest after quietly nurturing teen's secret dream for showbiz stardom

Katie Holmes is already strategizing on life as an empty nester as her daughter Suri Cruise prepares to relocate for college.
'The members of my book club are going to get annoyed hearing from me,' the 45-year-old actress told Town & Country's September issue. 'I'll be like, "Let's meet once a week."'
The publication noted how Holmes' group currently meets about five times annually, as the most recent meeting convening focused on the 2023 Abraham Verghese book The Covenant of Water. (Holmes said, 'I read a lot to calm my mind down.')
Holmes - who has nurtured Suri's performance chops - spoke about how she plans to adapt, as the 18-year-old is reportedly preparing to move to Pittsburgh to attend Carnegie Mellon University.
Suri 'is said to be interested in pursuing a career in fashion or acting,' the magazine reported, which comes as Suri has lived with her mother in New York City for more than a decade.

Carnegie Mellon boasts a number of notable names in its list of College of Fine Arts alumni, including Oscar-winning actress Holly Hunter, 66, Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr., 43, Emmy-winner Billy Porter, 54, Star Trek actor Zachary Quinto, 47, Cheers star Ted Danson, 76, and late pop art icon Andy Warhol.
Town & Country noted how Suri 'has contributed vocals to songs in two of Holmes’s films' - the 2023 drama Rare Objects and 2022 romantic drama Alone Together.
'I'm proud of my daughter,' Holmes told Town & Country of her daughter with ex-husband Tom Cruise, 62. 'Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I'm really proud of her and I'm happy.'
Holmes, speaking with Glamour in April 2023, said that she has sought to encourage Suri's performing on her projects.
'I hope she always does something on my films,' Holmes said. 'I always ask her.'
Holmes said that 'both of those experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people.'
Holmes said she strived to create a 'safe, beautiful, creative space' for Suri to hone her craft as a performer.
'So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly,' Holmes said. 'It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she’s my heart.'

The Dawson's Creek actress, who posed for an artsy set of images published in the magazine, looked back on her years of early adulthood, saying, 'I remember being this age, this time of beginnings.
'It's exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that.'
Suri's collegiate destination was revealed in June as she was pictured donning a red sweatshirt baring the college's name in a TikTok clip a friend posted prior to removing it.
The clip, which was set to the Miley Cyrus tune from Hannah Montana, I'll Always Remember You, featured the caption 'LaG commitment day.'
It was in reference to the performing arts-focused New York City high school, Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where Suri graduated from in June.
'She is a smart girl, and she is turning into a very intelligent mature young woman,' an insider told DailyMail.com of Suri in June. 'She has a very close group of loyal friends, and she knows exactly where she comes from.'
