Zach Braff reveals why Scrubs reboot has been delayed ahead of competing on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire with former castmate Donald Faison

Zach Braff would love to reprise his role as Dr. John 'J.D.' Dorian in a reboot of his hit medical sitcom Scrubs, but the reason for the delay has everything to do with creator Bill Lawrence.

'I'm gonna tell you something that nobody else is gonna get,' the 49-year-old Grammy winner told ET on Monday.

'Scrubs is a Disney show. Bill has a Warner Bros. deal. Once those two companies figure that out, I think the people will get what they want. I think it's gonna happen.'

Zach remains very close with the in-demand 55-year-old showrunner, who directed him in his new Apple TV+ series Bad Monkey after he directed an episode of his Apple TV+ dramedy Shrinking.

'[Bill] is just a brilliant story teller. I don't know anyone quite like him. He also manages to make like five shows at a time and he's the nicest person. I don't know. I'm just very blessed to have my wagon hitched to him,' Braff gushed.

'It would be so much fun [to do Scrubs again with] all my favorite people. We all still hang out. A lot of people who were on long shows say that, but it's true. I was just on vacation with Sarah Chalke in Montauk...I'm going to the beach with Bill next weekend. We're all friends.'

The New Jersey native further explained why the Scrubs cast was so 'fried' after shooting nine seasons of the critically-acclaimed series, which aired on NBC and ABC spanning 2001-2010.

'By the time nine years were over, we were sort of all exhausted by it,' Zach admitted on Michael Rosenbaum's podcast Inside of You on Tuesday.

'We were starting to repeat jokes. Everyone's pretty fried. This was back in the day - and I'm sure you did this on Smallville - where we would do insane hours that people don't even do anymore. We didn't really have much of a life outside of it. So we were just kind of fried.'

Braff and his castmate-turned-BFF Donald Faison - who played Dr. Christopher Turk - will compete on Wednesday night's episode of the celebrity edition of ABC game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

'It's so fun. Obviously, I won't give any spoilers, but we laughed our butts off,' the French Girl actor told ET.

'It was really fun.'

In 2020, Zach and the 50-year-old Clueless alum launched their weekly iHeartRadio podcast Fake Doctors, Real Friends where they relive Scrubs one episode at a time, which is still going strong.
