Zoe Kravitz gets candid about 'hurtful' decision to move in with father Lenny Kravitz after split from mom Lisa Bonet

Zoe Kravitz opened up during a candid discussion about the 'hurtful' choice to move in with her father, Lenny Kravitz, after splitting from mother, Lisa Bonet.

The Batman actress, 35 - who recently reacted to the iconic meme of her riding the back of Channing Tatum's bike - reflected on the past decision during an interview with Esquire that was published on Wednesday.

Lenny and Lisa tied the knot in 1987 and welcomed their daughter, Zoe, one year later. However, when she was only three-years-old, the pair split in 1991 - and their divorce was finalized in 1993.

Zoe initially lived with her mother in Santa Monica - and would be visited by her father as his career flourished.

'It was this whirlwind of a completely different universe,' she recalled, adding that she was intrigued by Lenny's fast-paced world.

The beauty admitted that it was difficult to go back to 'this really quiet, really simple life' with her mother in California. 

When she was 11, Zoe decided to move in with her father in Miami - where she was able to 'do it all.' 

'It wasn't that my dad didn't care,' she expressed to the outlet. 'He just cared about different things.' 

However, she grew up quickly while living with her father and experiencing the lifestyle that comes with fame. 

'Just like it happens in the movies. It's like, "Oh, you think this is perfect? You think this is great? Guess what comes with this."' 

The High Fidelity actress also talked about having trouble fitting in while residing in Florida, and explained, 'People were confused. How are you Jewish if you're Black? If both of your parents are Black, how are you half white?' 

She later convinced her father to move up to New York City, and was able to meet 'weirdos' like herself. 

Zoe attended the Rudolf Steiner School and took part in the drama club. 'I wasn't some genius actress,' she said, but revealed it was place that she 'felt safe.'

She also remembered that when her father was away, a cousin would fly in to Manhattan to be her guardian until he returned. 

Kravitz further reflected on moving out of her mother's house, and stated, 'I think it was very hurtful that I moved away from her to be with my dad and my dad wasn't even there.'

Zoe revealed, 'I just wish I had been able to appreciate what she was doing for me.'

The star added that Lisa, 'was so focused on preserving my innocence. My creativity. Because she knew what the world is - that you don't get that back.'

Zoe made her directorial debut in her upcoming movie Blink Twice, which is set to be released in theaters on August 23.

The star said she only had one idea for the lead role in the film - Channing Tatum.

She revealed to the outlet that at the time she had never met him and she knew she wanted him as the lead.

Zoe spoke out about the process of making Blink Twice into a film - after she one day was on her laptop and wrote the two words 'P***y Island.'

She revealed that she started typing out the story, calling it 'this fever dream of a novella.' 

The star began working with her friend E.T. Feigenbaum on the story, which took four years to iron out.

She noted that after she reached out to Channing about the project, he sent back notes on the script after he said it wasn't ready. After she revised it, he accepted the role.

She also divulged that they love watching MasterChef and watched all 13 seasons of MasterChef together. 'We also like Love is Blind, which I shouldn't even be saying.'

Zoe also said that she played an elaborate prank on Channing, which she got a baker.

The prank was inspired by the show Is it Cake? on Netflix - which the couple obsessively watched.

She got the baker to make cakes in the shape of various objects - the first was a cake in the shape of fried chicken.

They were on vacation together and he grabbed the cake thinking it was fried chicken and took a bite out of it.

She continued the prank, having the baker make a cake that look like a remote control, as well as travel toothpaste and a sock.

Kravitz said she heard him say 'What the f**k?' in the bathroom when he found out the toothpaste was cake.
