Christina Aguilera has opened up about how she was body shamed throughout her career as she graced the cover of Glamour

The Genie In A Bottle hitmaker, 43, is the magazine's August cover star - 25 years after her iconic pop debut.

Speaking about her early years in the music industry, Christina revealed that music bosses were unhappy when she gained weight in her 20s - and said they preferred her as a 'skinny teenager'.

'When you're a teenager, you have a very different body than when you're in your 20s,' Christina said in the cover interview. 'I started to fill out, and then that was unacceptable because it was like, "Oh, she's getting thicker."

'Then I had industry people say: "They liked your body and how you were as a skinny teenager".'

The star's weight has fluctuated over the years, with her recently sparking rumours of Ozempic use after debuting a 50lb weight loss.

She previously said she 'hated being super skinny' and had started embracing and 'loving my new curves', according to Health.

Christina's career started out when she competed on Star Search, before being selected for The All-New Mickey Mouse Club.

After hanging up her mouse ears in 1996, Christina recorded the theme tune for Disney movie Mulan which helped propel her to fame with her self-titled debut album the following year.

For the live-action remake of Mulan in 2020, Christina released the new song Loyal Brave True and a re-recording of Reflection.

The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, with help from her hit singles Genie in a Bottle and What a Girl Wants.

But the pressure to portray a clean cut look all the time was leaving her burnt out, and determined to reclaim her sexuality and break norms she later carved out a decidedly raunchier brand of pop than her peers.

Christina raised eyebrows with racy performances in music videos for songs like Can't Hold Us Down and Dirrty - the latter of which has become an iconic fancy dress costume.

She released two more albums before achieving critical acclaim once again with her fourth record, Stripped, which includes singles Dirrty, Beautiful, Fighter, Can't Hold Us Down and The Voice Within.

In 2007, she was announced by Forbes as one of the richest women in entertainment with a net worth of $60 million (£46 million) - now estimated as more than two times that amount.

In May it was revealed that Christina was moving on from the only record label she's ever signed to, RCA Records, after 26 years.

Now Christina has signed 5020 Records, a Latin-infused label based out of Miami, according to Variety.

Neither the singer, nor her former or new record label have spoken publicly about the shift, though a rep for 5020 confirmed Christina signed with the label.

Fans had speculated about the record label shift over the past few months, when the 5020 logo appeared on her website.

Her name has been quietly removed from the RCA website's Artists page, officially bringing an end to their 26-year collaboration.

Christina was discovered by RCA executive Ron Fair, after he heard her demo tape cover of Whitney Houston's Run It to You in 1997.

The $1million the label invested in Christina paid off when her first single Genie In a Bottle was released in May 1999.

The song spent five straight weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts and became the second-highest-selling single of 1999, behind just Cher's Believe.

Her self-titled album debuted atop the Billboard 200 album charts, and ended up being the 9th highest-selling album that year.

The album sold more than 10 million copies in its first year and was certified eight-time platinum, while also winning the Grammy for Best New Artist.
