Yes, that's what I was thinking. I'm trying to figure out a good list description - have any ideas? Pm if you do.
maybe something like what I posted at the beginning of the taboo thread: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/5...

Perfect - I didn't even think of that. Thank you for letting me borrow the description.

Do you think the new description clarifies my list enough? Maybe a different list title?
I'm really just trying to have a list that we can add different books under this umbrella, because seriously, I do NOT have enough books to read. LOL

and don't forget to add tags...every kind of phrase you can think of that is taboo so it will pop up when people search for certain things - you can copy this and add to it if you like:

Thanks, I used that and added some additional. I'm sure this will be a moving target for a while.

I actually prefer your title and examples—clearer and much more expansive in scope. (But maybe clarify "Teacher-Student relationships" to note underage? Because not really taboo if both adults—more policy issue?)
And there's nothing wrong with having similar lists (so many dups in Listopia). I linked to other list only as "FYI". I stopped keeping track of it for various reasons. Won't say why here.
As for "because seriously, I do NOT have enough books to read. LOL"... Good God, just joining EE and some other groups have shot my somewhat organized list to bits!

Thanks to everybody who has added reads and voted. I wasn't sure if there was going to be interest so I started it for myself and you all have made it more than I imagined.
Okay. My own books are here so I'm not impartial but
is a new adult romance. Extremely popular but is it taboo?

Lei, why would 'The Reluctant Dom' be on this list?
eta: Unless solely b/c of her past? B/c if so, then I have to re-think this list b/c I took it as taboo content in story's 'present' timeline. :(

KB - I haven't read
so I can't say - her other books haven't really had any taboo content, that I can recall - looks like I need to fit that one in somewhere so I can speak intelligently, lol.
Cari - At first glance when I saw your message, I was horrified that a new adult book had been added to the list (don't read that genre) but after looking at the reviews, was (view spoiler) alluded to? None of the reviews come out and say it so I'm guessing. I guess it fits in with the theme but it might be scary for people who saw this on a Listopia and saw all the other books, lol.["br"]>["br"]>

Lei, I went googling lol
No, seems like the first one deals with parental death and it's the second book in this series that deals with rape and incest. I doubt there's any taboos in Slammed.
Though it makes me think that although this list is probably meant for books that eroticise taboos, books that portray incest as a terrible thing would actually fit the list definition. Maybe erotic should have been used in the definition somewhere?

Cari - I edited the definition - with an age disclaimer. This has been an interesting list to watch, to say the least.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Thanks for your thoughts.
I have read Slammed and there is nothing that I can see that would make it taboo...There is a teacher student thing... BUT...if anyone has read it, I don't believe it qualifies for the list...

I agree. If I recall correctly the female m/c is 18 & the male m/c is 21. The student/teacher thing was portrayed more as an obstacle to their relationship.

Is there any consensual monster, alien, etc. books without Bondage, BDSM, Forced, Pissing Rape, Scat, Gay, Violent?

Considering the title and description of this Listopia, you should probably look elsewhere for that...
I voted for some tittles, not because they are my 'favourite' by the way, as the description suggests, but because personally I think they belong on this list.

I'd definitely think sex with monsters is taboo lol Definitely socially unacceptable. You should be looking at scifi stories pehaps. Try doing a search on Amazon. Search words: monster taboo erotica
Even if you dont buy there, on amazon, it may show you some appropriate monster sex books. there is a list or two here on Goodreads for tentacle sex books. Both male and female, but theres no way to narrow it down to consensual ones without checking the reviews and blurb on each book.

OMG this list is sooooo full of bullshit. Jeez, hot billionairs kidnap regular nobody girls and hold captive? And then care for them and fall in love? WTF!!!
Hot guys don't need to kidnap anybody. Especially if they are rich. They can have plenty of willing females, including those who are into bdsm shit.
Also, twisted guys are like not capable of caring. Also, I imagine they are mostly ugly or average.
Also, when you are totally under control you are boring. You can't make the captor fall for you if you are a THING that is just tossed around, and so spineless as to enjoy it after a while.
UGH!!! This is just stupid wish fulfillment shit! Like, he's so hot and rich, but also so twisted, as to want me to a point of being abusive, but in the end he's caring (to make previous abuse okay), and I'm the only one who can save him. Jeez. Girls, chill. These fantasies are doing you no good. Get over yourselves.

Although I agree in principle (but it is fiction and escapism, after all), the books on the list are exactly what the description specifies....
By the way, I noticed you've read Fifty Shades of Grey and rated it three stars... How does that fit, considering your message above ("Jeez. Girls, chill. These fantasies are doing you no good. Get over yourselves"), because Fifty Shades definitely qualifies as 'billionaires and bullshit' in my book....

I've undoubtely read some, but the problem is I tend to forget about them the moment I've read the last page, as they don't exactly make a lasting impression ;-)
As Cari said earlier, there is "a list or two here on Goodreads for tentacle sex books. Both male and female", Have a look at Tentaclesex, yay!, Tentaclesex with women! and Gay Interspecies Romance and Erotica.
I've just remembered some titles, thanks to the Listopia's: Glistening Tentacle Bundle, The Encounter, An Alien Massaged me Intimately and Wrong Turn. All of them are consensual and none of them are gay (if I remember correctly :-0).

This seems like trolling. You're here but hate what this list specifically asks for. Nonconsent for one. You don't even read highly erotic stories. fsog was something you read to see what the fuss was about.
These are all fiction. Strange that. Fiction IS fantasy. These are erotic fantasies, and yes WISH FULFILLMENT, not what someone wants in real life. Stop trying to insult the reading choices of others.
Go insult those who read about serial killers ripping out hearts, or those who read knitting books, or (also wish fulfillment) vanilla romances where people skip off into the sunset with Highlanders. Not everyone likes what you do, or should have to.
PS to anyone wondering. I have read those first two categories I mention above, and I don't care what others read. A book is for you when you turn those pages. Read what you want. Enjoy those stories.

When I created this listopia back in 2012, it was because I wanted a place to find books that were more of a 'taboo' nature as evidenced by the list of suggested topics. A judgement-free list.
As time has gone on, my measly list has grown to encompass many more books than I ever imagined and perhaps there are books listed that *I* wouldn't necessarily categorize as taboo.
But, as GR has gotten increasingly less reader friendly (home page as just the latest example), I find myself spending less time here, and it's not worth it for me to delete books that I don't think really belong on this list.
For me, a taboo read is Object D'Art but for someone else, FSOG may just be the most 'taboo' book they've read, in subjective terms for them. This list can and does list both books.
I welcome you to look at the list and find something that teases your boundaries, whatever they are.
And as dearly departed Frank (RIP) says:
“So many books, so little time.” ~ ~

@WhatIReallyRead - the way most heroines are written in m/f are why I now read 95% m/m. An m/m hero can be a plumber or a landscaper or a barista.

A very measured and objective response, Lei, however I doubt most of it will apply to the person commenting above. She came here to lecture others on their poor taste, as far as I can tell, and nothing more. No erotic books except for fsog and she tags fsog bs-bingo and bad-writing, and rates all the others in that series as one or two.
I wouldnt read fsog either, or call it taboo (for me), but I also wouldnt deride anyone for reading it or for calling it taboo. I know for some any bdsm is dark.
She also calls BDSM shit and gently tells us girls to get over ourselves. I dont see any liking for taboo reads, unless all those books of hers are flying under the radar.
Are there a lot of billionaire mf stories? Yes. However that dark erotic horror vibe in Objet d'Art is increasingly being seen in MF dark erotica.
Pretty Stolen Dolls.
lily White seems to write it.
Ker Dukey and K Webster?
8 days to Salvation.
Take me with you
I dont write quite that dark, and I can't guarantee zero billionaires in the above as I havent read them, but the rise and rise of erotic horror/ horror erotica has been marked in the last year or so.

I couldn't have said it better myself :-)
As I mentioned earlier, the interesting thing is that 'WhatIReallyRead' not only read Fifty Shades but rated it three stars. Not a single mention of BDSM or billionaires in Fifty Shades, now is there? ;-) My reason for reading it was to see what all the fuss was about as well. It's beyond me how someone who writes a message like 'WhatIReallyRead' did here can rate Fifty Shades three stars: People like or dislike the book and giving it three stars to me definitely sounds as if one belongs to the first group...
By the way, I don't think any of the subjects mentioned in the description would be considered 'taboo reads' here in the Netherlands. Some of the subjects may be frowned upon slightly, but that's it. After all, it is all fiction and people can read whatever they like. I noticed other things as well no-one here in the Netherlands would loose any sleep over, although on Amazon and GR subjects like having an affair with a step are called taboo reads too. Interesting...

You're right. Also, I'm inconsistent here. The only thing I can say in my defense is that FSoG was the first erotica anything I've read. Also, at that point I didn't realize that the whole billionaire thing was kinda a genre of it's own. I mean, you can stretch your imagination once, but seeing a whole list of books with the same thing was sorta... too much?

Not trolling, just genuinely voicing an opinion. I stumbled upon this list by accident and was surprised to find so many books, esp. popular books that fit the description. I have no issue with the list per se, I was commenting on the genre it represents if you will. Am I out of place here? It's the first time I've commented on a list, and now that I think about it, my strong-worded comment probably doesn't belong here. Sorry folks, I probably just got the whole "Goodreads lists" thing wrong, didn't mean to offend anybody.
You definitely have a point, although I do disagree with you on a couple of things. When I read a book and think something in it is stupid, sometimes that it detracts from the pleasure of reading it. But then, sometimes it doesn't. Even the general plot outline can be the same, and the reaction - different. I guess it depends on the book.
Also, I'm not insulting the readers of these books (or do I? don't mean to, anyway). I have issues with some stuff in these books. And the "Jeez. Girls, chill" bit applies to me as well as anyone. Because if I'm not exactly a lover of this particular sub-genre, I definitely do read (and enjoy) a lot of bs in romance books :)

Sometimes a three-star rating means "I don't know what to rate this book, I'll give it something in the middle". Cause, you know, you can have different feelings about different aspects of a book.
Also, as you read more books of the same genre your reaction to some plot devices, character traits etc. changes.

Hello. I'm looking for a book. I don't remember the title or the author's name, but I do remember some of the plot. It's about a a girl who upon joining a college fraternity (or some such) agrees to get a certain result at the end of university studies and fails. Afterwards she is kidnapped and sold to a doctor who specializes in sexual enhancement drugs who experiments on her and trains her as a slave... If anyone can help me find the book, I'd be very grateful... Thanx :-)
Why is Fahrenheit 451 on this list? It does not have any of the suggested taboos. It's about the taboo on reading.
Should it be removed grom this list?
The suggested taboos
- Erotic Incest/Twincest - Legal Age
- Noncon or non consensual sexual acts or rape/rape fantasy
- Kidnap or Kidnap fantasy
- Teacher-Student relationships
- Bestiality
- Extreme Humiliation
- Extreme Pain...pain sluts
- Animal Play (dress and act like animals)
- Age Play
- Snuff
- Water Sports

I don't see any reason either why Fahrenheit 451 (#50) is on the list. The same thing goes by the way for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (#55) and A Clockwork Orange (#60) (to name a few), in my opinion. But then again, I'm Dutch, so I undoubtedly have a different view of 'taboo reads' 😃

@Booklovinglady
I agree with you. These books do not seem to contain the sexual oriented taboos the list is about. IMO belong in other lists, not this one.
I vote for removal.
But let's see if someone comes up with a good argument to keep them.

If you want them removed you need a librarian to do it.
They’ll only do it if they don’t belong.
Imo they would remove them.

I'm a librarian but I'd like a 'green light' from the list's creator (~ Lei ~ Reading Is An Adventure ~) before I remove them. Besides, the creator is a librarian as well.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw them lol.
I just stumbled across this list by accident. A happy find.

Okay, I removed Fahrenheit, after three months of waiting for the argument what was sexually taboo about it. I haven't read One Flew etc yet - so I can't judge whether there's sexual taboo in there like some Dom-Sub or bondage or some such thing in it (I heard rumors about the nurse, but haven's a clue what's actually going on)

Anyone can add books to this list.
(And is it horrible that I scale rapes/graphic torture as "dark" vs. "taboo"?)
