I had predictions about how it was going to end, but it was nothing compared to actually reading what happened. In other words, it was WELL worth the 805-page read.
Although I still liked this book, it doesn't even compare to Throne of Glass or A Court of Thorns and Roses. That being said, it still has the same kind of vibe as the other ones in the 'found family' aspect which I LOVEDDDD. I don't think I loved the urban fantasy aspect of it.. Idk I miss Velaris.
But do I still recommend this series? Yes. 100%...more

I was hooked in the first 200 pages, but then we got to a point where I knew what was going to happen. So when the end rolled around, there was no shock factor. Alongside this, I am severely lacking motivation to start the second book... Although I do hear that the second book is better.
I did really enjoy the fantasy aspect of this book. It was unique without being too confusing. I did need at least 50 pages to understand how the magic system worked, but beyond that I was good. If you're looking for a unique fantasy read with a splash of romance, try this one. On the romance side of things, it was refreshing to not read another typical enemies to lovers, but I almost wished there was at the same time. Although the spice was very tame, the romance was interwoven too early for my liking. There is almost an immediate attraction between the two, so the romance was inevitable. I wish there was a little spark of hate between them in the beginning. Nothing actually happens until the 70% mark, but there was constant hand crushing and hands around the waist moments. The spice is very low. Like young adult low, which I honestly didn't mind for a change.
Last note - The Nightmare was truthfully one of my favourite characters. He kept things interesting lol.
All in all, it was a good read but doesn't make my favourites list this year. Maybe book 2...?...more

Listen, I knew I was probably going to like this book, but I didn't think I would fall head over heels for it. I devoured this book in its entirety and I would read it again and again and again. There is not a single thing I would change in this book. Perfection.
The book gives a strong Hunger Games vibe, but brings SO MUCH MORE. We've got rivals-to-lovers, knife-to-throat scenes, pining, dance lessons, AND SO MUCH TENSION. I have never read a book, let alone a YA one, with so much goddamn build-up. These characters barely even kissed and I was at the edge of my seat every time. Lauren Roberts knew what booktok loved AND FUCKING DELIVERED. Lauren, ily.
I knew the end was coming and it still hurt. In the last 80 pages, I could feel something bad coming and felt physically ill about it. And then it happened and I was broken. And now I am in withdrawal because the second book doesn't come out till July :)

Right off the bat, I knew I probably wasn't going to love the writing style. It felt very Wattpad-y... I think that's the word I'm looking for. It just wasn't great writing.
The storyline is what pulled me in - The dragon king is looking for a wife and the only requirement is that the woman must have enough magic to produce an heir. Enter Arwen who believes herself to be the average girl with little to no power. Lo and behold, this isn't the case and she is chosen to be a potential wife for the king. I originally thought of The Selection series in a fantasy world. This was not the case. At all.
I still managed to finish this book, so it was still an okay book, but nothing special. The plotline was all over the place and while I like unpredictable books, this just seemed unorganized. One thing would be said and then it would all change in the next chapter. It just got tiring after a while.
Our love interests - Arwen and Drae - were cute, but again, nothing special. They had chemistry, but it still didn't feel right. It was just a whole lot of back and forth. Not really my cup of tea. Arwen was a strong MC and I liked her a lot, but Drae was a bit bland. ALSO, somehow I was expecting some spice in here. Nope. This could honestly be categorized as Young Adult - They have a couple of kiss scenes and a boring sex scene with minimal details.
AND The only character that I truly liked was killed off half way through so that was fucking amazing.

The only bone I have to pick with this book is the chemistry fell short... I didn't feel like Oraya liked Raihn as much as he liked her. His character and feeling development throughout the book was SO GOOD, but I felt like Oraya jumped from hating him to liking him. Still love them both, but I feel like one-day Oraya just woke up and thought he was attractive. There is still definitely a slow burn and I love them both regardless. And the ending is so worth it.
Ok, one last thing - I feel like the ending was a tad rushed. I took a break from reading this book at the 80% mark and I think that screwed me other. I was a bit confused coming back to the story and then so many things happened all at once. I don't think it had the shock factor that was intended.
Regardless, I still loved this!!! Perfect for those who love fantasy, but still want some enemies-to-lovers action ;) ALSO this title is so smart... Idk how it took me the whole book for it to click, but I love it <3...more

I wasn't sure about reading this right after book 1, but I strongly recommend it now. I started reading it right after book one and then read it in tandem with books 2 and 3. Looking back now, I feel like it's best to read it right after book 1!! The plotline and characters are still fresh in your head and so much stuff happens between each book that you might get slightly confused.
Normally I don't LOVE a whole new book with the same plot and different points of view because it can be a tad boring. This honestly wasn't the case here and I almost loved it as much as the first book. Getting Darius' and Orion's perspectives truly made this book and added to the overall story.
Getting insight onto why the heirs act the way they do is so eye-opening and I honestly formed a soft spot for all of them (even if it's a small one) <3 Max still has a ways to go...

The obsession I now have with this series is unreal. After finishing the Cruel Prince series, I have been craving a new enemies-to-lovers series and this hit the spot.

The first book's ending shocked me to no end and I was left reeling. One of the best things about these books is that the next one picks up right where we left off. There is no room for interpretation or theories - we get right to the goods. This book was so addicting as we got to see the revenge Tory and Darcy got on the Heirs. I truly could not put this book down. The writing style was so smart - Every time the revenge plot was in place for each heir we would get the POV from one of the girls and then the Heir. SO SMART AND ADDICTING!!
This book also gives us the POVs of the four heirs + Orion (and obviously Tory and Darcy). I'm not usually one for multiple points of view cause I tend to get lost and lose interest in a couple of the characters, but this isn't the case. I really enjoyed each of the POVs *even Max and Seth's who I despise*.
The romance in this book isn't your typical romance and I'm here for it. Darcy and Orion in this book had me on my goddamn knees. I love those two more than any other book couple. The combination of forbidden love, the age gap, and the denial of feelings is pure perfection. AND THE SLOW BURN OHMYGOD. Perfection, once again. Then we have Tory and her love interests. Now let's be honest here: I don't love Caleb and Tory, but they do have chemistry. Darius is my guy, but I'm predicting that he'll get his turn eventually.

I adored Adrian from the beginning and he just got better with each chapter. Isolde was interesting... I like I'm supposed to love her as a strong FMC, but I just didn't really connect with her a whole lot. Not sure why. The same goes with the side characters; I didn't really feel a connection with any of them. They were just average. Except for Killian. Killian was below average. Goddamn, he was annoying I wish he just went away after the first couple of chapters.
I think the only thing I liked about this book was Isolde and Adrian's relationship... The world-building and overall fantasy aspect was nothing special. I didn't feel emersed in the world as much I would like to. I honestly don't remember much about the world overall and I literally just finished reading it.
The ending was also a tad disappointing. I had a feeling about what the end was going to be and it kind of lost its impact because of that. I was hoping for more of a plot twist or surprise, but it was exactly how I predicted. Honestly, I think most readers can read between the lines and figure it out, unfortunately :( It also didn't leave me craving more so I don't think I'll be continuing with the series.

I loved the characters and the storyline and the pacing of the book. I don’t always love the insta love that comes with fated mate books, but this wasn’t truly insta love. Mae couldn’t feel the bond right away, so it was more of a slow burn romance. And the pacing on this was PERFECT.
If you are looking for a fast paced, cute, SMUTTY book, then this one is for you. It’s just not one of my absolute favourites!!

Zodiac Academy: The Awakening is a new adult, bully romance, paranormal book and I loved every minute of it. I'm not usually one for bully romances, but this one was written so perfectly that I didn't even seem to mind. The plot is so intriguing with secrets and magic, that the bullying wasn't the main part of the story. On top of that, the bullying was bad, but I have definitely read worse...
If you know me, you know I despise zodiac signs/horoscopes WITH A PASSION. With zodiac literally being in the name of this book I was a bit worried, but I actually loved the zodiac part of the novel. They get horoscopes every couple of days which acted as a premonition for some chapters and it was actually kind of fun to predict what was going to happen.
As I'm writing this review, I'm beginning to see that this book was set up for me NOT to like it. The novel follows Tory and Darcy in a dual POV *which I usually don't love*, but I honestly enjoyed both perspectives. I love both sisters for different reasons, but definitely enjoyed Darcy's love interests more <3

I was initially skeptical due to the overwhelming 1-star reviews, but trust me when I say this book is now one of my absolute favourites. I have been on a fantasy break for a while now, but Alex Aster just made me fall back in love with it. Many people have compared this book to A Court of Thorns and Roses + The Hunger Games, and honestly, I am here for it.
I loved Isla's character, as well as pretty much all the other rulers. I feel like they were each written so uniquely and I was so intrigued about each of them. The plot was very interesting and I LOVE the idea of it, but it kind of took a turn halfway through... The book summary describes a 'deadly game' for the 6 rulers, but it didn't really feel like it after a while. Granted, I love where the story went but was definitely not expecting it. I feel like we didn't hear enough about each of the ruler's curses and by the end, they were just kind of abandoned haha!!
Then we have the romance... Let me tell you right now, that I was not expecting a love triangle. I didn't hate it, but I was definitely not loving it especially since there was no clear "winner". The romance and each connection were written so beautifully, it literally had my heart aching. But I wish there was only one love interest, not two. And as readers, most of us have a clear opinion on who we want the main character to end up with. Unfortunately, she did NOT go with my pick and I'll be broken up about that for a while :((
And that ending woah... I definitely love a good plot twist and we sure got it.

I feel like she didn't grow at all in this book and just remained extremely naive and immature. The same goes for Marisol. Not likeable characters at all.
Now Jacks... Love that man. Honestly, I loved all of the fates!!! They stole the show here. I found myself only wanting to read the parts that included the fates *especially Jacks*
Now we have the plot. The book was nothing and everything like the summary. The summary talks about Evangeline striking a deal with the Prince of Hearts and in return he wants three kisses. This was so intriguing to me at first, but it fell short in the book. Plus, it became a very small part of the plot.
I feel like I should've read the Caravel series before this because it's based in the same world. The author has said you don't need to, but I feel like I was missing some small details throughout the book.
All in all, this book isn't my absolute favourite, but it was extremely addicting <3 And I will be buying the second book in the series tomorrow haha ;)
